Fist of the North Star is a Japanese manga series written by Buronson and illustrated by Tetsuo Hara. It was serialized in Shueisha's shōnen manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump for 245 issues published from 1983 to 1988 and initially collected in 27 tankōbon volumes under the Jump Comics imprint. Set on a post-apocalyptic Earth after a nuclear war, the story centers on a warrior named Kenshiro, the successor of a deadly martial art known as Hokuto Shinken, which gives him the ability to kill his opponents by striking their secret vital points, which often results in an exceptionally violent and gory death. Kenshiro dedicates his life to fighting against the various gangs, bandits, and warlords who threaten the lives of the defenseless and innocent, as well as rival martial artists.
Fist of the Blue Sky is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Tetsuo Hara, with plot supervision by Buronson. It was serialized in Weekly Comic Bunch from 2001 to 2010, with the chapters collected into 22 tankōbon volumes by Shinchosha. It is a prequel to the popular 1980s manga Fist of the North Star, which Hara originally illustrated with Buronson writing. Set primarily in Shanghai during the 1930s, the series centers on the 62nd successor of the Hokuto Shinken martial arts style, Kenshiro Kasumi, the namesake and predecessor of Kenshiro from Fist of the North Star. The manga was adapted into a 26-episode anime series that aired on TV Asahi from 2006 to 2007.
Fighting Mania: Fist of the North Star, released in Japan as Punch Mania: Hokuto no Ken, is a boxing game based on the manga series Fist of the North Star released by Konami in 2000 as a coin-operated arcade game.
"Ai wo Torimodose!!" is the first opening theme song of the 1980s anime Fist of the North Star, performed by Japanese rock band Crystal King, with the verses sung by Monsieur Yoshisaki and the chorus by Masayuki Tanaka. The original B-side for the single was the first ending theme of Fist of the North Star titled "Yuria... Eien ni". The song is known for the refrain "YOU wa SHOCK", which is sometimes used as an alternate title for the song.
Raoh is a fictional character in the manga series Fist of the North Star created by Buronson and Tetsuo Hara. He is the eldest of four honorary brothers who trained in the ancient assassination art of Hokuto Shinken. Following his introduction in Chapter 42 of the original manga, Raoh serves as Kenshiro's primary rival and adversary during a great portion of the series, being in the case, the main antagonist of Fist of the North Star, having already taken the mantle of Ken-oh, a tyrannical warlord that seeks to dominate the post-apocalyptic world. In contrast to Kenshiro's title as the "Savior of Century's End", Raoh is commonly referred as the Supreme Ruler of the Century's End within the story.
Last Battle: Legend of the Final Hero is a side-scrolling martial arts beat 'em up released for the Mega Drive/Genesis in 1989 by Sega. It was one of the six games that were available as part of the Genesis launch lineup in the U.S. The Japanese version, titled Shin Seikimatsu Kyūseishu Densetsu: Hokuto no Ken, is based on the manga and anime series Fist of the North Star. Since the international version did not retain the Hokuto no Ken license, the graphics and characters' names were altered. It was the second Hokuto no Ken game released by Sega, following the Mark III original, released internationally as Black Belt. Versions for the Commodore 64 and Amiga based upon Last Battle were developed and released by Elite in Europe in 1991.
Black Belt is a beat 'em up video game developed and published by Sega for the Master System. The story follows Riki, a martial artist on a mission to save his girlfriend from his rival. Gameplay consists of a series of side-scrolling stages where the player battles waves of minor enemies and the occasional sub-boss. Stages culminate in more challenging boss encounters, each requiring the player to use a specific attack to win.
Fist of the North Star is a 2D competitive fighting game produced by Sega and developed by Arc System Works, based on the manga series of the same name. It was originally released in 2005 as a coin-operated arcade game for the Atomiswave hardware. A PlayStation 2 port, retitled Hokuto no Ken: Shinpan no Sōsōsei Kengō Retsuden, was released exclusively in Japan in March 2007. This version features a bonus DVD including an exclusive training mode and a documentary covering history of previous Hokuto no Ken titles for home consoles. The arcade version was officially distributed by Sega in North America, while the PS2 port was released only in Japan. In 2020, a homebrew conversion was released for the Dreamcast.
Fist of the North Star is a side-scrolling action video game produced by Toei Animation and developed by Shouei System for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). It was first released in Japan under the title Hokuto no Ken 2 on April 17, 1987, being the second Hokuto no Ken video game released for the Family Computer (Famicom) by the anime production company, while also serving as a tie-in to the Hokuto no Ken 2 anime series which began airing on Fuji TV a few weeks earlier. Taxan published the localized NES version in April 1989, making it one of the earliest Fist of the North Star products released in the U.S. alongside Viz Communications' English adaptation of the manga.
New Fist of the North Star is a three-episode original video animation (OVA) series based on the Fist of the North Star franchise, directed by Takashi Watanabe and produced by OB Planning. The story was adapted from Jubaku no Machi, a 1996 Hokuto no Ken novel written by Buronson and Tetsuo Hara set sometime after the conclusion of the original manga. An English dubbed version of the OVA was produced by ADV Films in 2004.
Fist of the North Star is a 1986 Japanese adult animated post-apocalyptic martial arts film based on the manga of the same name. It was produced by Toei Animation, the same studio who worked on the TV series that was airing at the time, with most of the same cast and crew working on both projects.
Legends of the Dark King: A Fist of the North Star Story, commonly romanized as Ten no Haoh or Raoh Gaiden, is a Japanese manga series by Yuko Osada that was serialized in the Weekly Comic Bunch from 2006 to 2007. It is a spinoff of the manga series Fist of the North Star by Buronson and Tetsuo Hara. The story centers on the Fist of the North Star antagonist Raoh and depicts his rise to power as the conqueror of a post-apocalyptic world prior to and during the events of the original work. The story of Legends of the Dark King also incorporates elements introduced in the Fist of the North Star: The Legends of the True Savior movie series, including Raoh's childhood friends of Reina and Souga, who help him establish his army.
Fist of the North Star: The Legends of the True Savior is a Japanese animated film series produced by TMS Entertainment and North Stars Pictures based on the manga Fist of the North Star written by Buronson and illustrated by Tetsuo Hara. The films are updated re-imaginings of the events depicted in the manga, and include additional details, new characters and minor alterations to some events. The series spans three theatrical films and two OVAs, each focusing on a different character from the manga. These were released in Japan during a three-year span between 2006 and 2008, culminating with the 25th anniversary of the original manga. The first film, as well as both OVAs, were distributed by Toho. A portion of the project's budget came from a trust fund established by SMBC Friend Securities, which raised over 23 billion yen.
DD Fist of the North Star is a manga series written and illustrated by Kajio. It is an adaptation of Buronson and Tetsuo Hara's Fist of the North Star in a chibi art style.
Hokuto no Ken: Ichigo Aji is a Japanese comedy manga spoofing the post-apocalyptic action series Fist of the North Star. An anime television series adaptation started airing in October 2015.
Hokuto Gaiden is a series of spin-off works by various authors based on the Hokuto no Ken manga by Buronson and Tetsuo Hara. They were all published in Weekly Comic Bunch between 2006 and 2010, with the exception of Jibo no Hoshi, which was published in Big Comic Superior. Each spin-off is set at some point during the Hokuto no Ken continuity and features a supporting character from the original manga as a protagonist.
