The 1958–59 European Cup was the fourth season of the European Cup, Europe's premier club football tournament. The 1959–60 European Cup was the fifth season of the European Cup, Europe's premier club football tournament. The competition was won by Real Madrid, who beat Eintracht Frankfurt 7–3 in the final at Hampden Park, Glasgow, on 18 May 1960, thanks to first ever hat-tricks scored in the final of the competition by Ferenc Puskás and Alfredo Di Stéfano. It remains the record score and record attendance for the European Cup final. It was Real Madrid's fifth consecutive title, which is a feat that no other club has matched.

The Greek Basketball League (abbreviated as GBL), and also known as the Stoiximan Greek Basketball League (GBL) for sponsorship reasons, is the first tier level professional basketball league in Greece. It is run by the Hellenic Basketball Association (abbreviated as HEBA; Greek: ΕΣΑΚΕ), under the legal authority of the Hellenic Basketball Federation (abbreviated as HBF; Greek: Ε.Ο.Κ.). Peristeri B.C., or Peristeri Athens B.C. is a Greek professional basketball club that is located in Peristeri, Greece, which is both a city and a suburb in the western part of the Athens agglomeration. The club's full name is Gymnastikos Syllogos Peristeriou K.A.E.. It is a part of the G.S. Peristeri multi-sports club. The club was founded on October 22, 1971.

Nikolaos "Nikos" Stavropoulos, a.k.a.Professor Nicholas "Magic" Stavropoulos, is a former Greek professional basketball player and coach. During his club playing career, at a height of 1.96 m (6'5") tall, Stavropoulos played at the point guard and shooting guard positions. During his playing career, Stavropoulos was known for his dazzling passing skills, and his spectacular play-making ability, which garnered him the nickname "Magic", or "Greek Magic", after NBA player Magic Johnson, who played during the same era, and was also known for his dazzling passes and play-making ability.

A total of 20 Greek clubs have participated in European competitions so far. Olympiacos made the first appearance when they took part in the 1959–60 European Cup and is the club with the most overall apps/matches. They are also the only Greek team to have won a European trophy and the first team in Europe to win both senior and youth European titles in the same season, after winning the UEFA Conference League and the UEFA Youth League in 2024. Other important landmarks of Greek football in European competitions are the participation of Panathinaikos in the 1971 European Cup final and in the semi-finals of the 1985 and 1996 editions. The best UEFA Cup campaign was AEK Athens run to the semi-finals in 1977. Greek clubs have reached at least the quarter-finals of a European competition on 19 occasions in total.
