Monford Merrill "Monte" Irvin was an American left fielder and right fielder in the Negro leagues and Major League Baseball (MLB) who played with the Newark Eagles, New York Giants (1949–1955) and Chicago Cubs (1956). He grew up in New Jersey and was a standout football player at Lincoln University. Irvin left Lincoln to spend several seasons in Negro league baseball. His career was interrupted by military service from 1943 to 1945.

William Edward Irwin was a 30-year-old replacement player in one game for the Detroit Tigers on May 18, 1912, after the regular team went on strike to protest the suspension of Ty Cobb, following Cobb's attack on a handicapped fan in New York. His last name is sometimes mistakenly given as "Irvin".

The 1988 Milwaukee Brewers season involved the Brewers finishing 3rd in the American League East with a record of 87 wins and 75 losses.

The 1971 Philadelphia Phillies season was the 89th season for the franchise in Philadelphia. The Phillies finished in sixth place in the National League East, with a record of 67–95.

Garth Cale Iorg is an American former professional baseball player. He is the son of former Major League Baseball (MLB) player Garth Iorg and nephew of former MLB player Dane Iorg. Iorg played college baseball for the Alabama Crimson Tide. After his freshman season at Alabama, Iorg put his baseball career on hold to go on a Mormon mission to Lisbon, Portugal. He was drafted by the Detroit Tigers shortly before he returned from the mission. Iorg was ranked as the third best prospect in the Tigers organization by Baseball America following the 2008 season.

Frederick Bidds "Happy" Iott was an American professional baseball center fielder. He played in Major League Baseball with the Cleveland Naps in 1903. He was born in Houlton, Maine, and pitched for the town team there. In 1897, he was on the Houlton team that won the state championship.

Gary Raymond Ignasiak is a former Major League Baseball player. He played part of one season with the Detroit Tigers. Ignasiak was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 36th round of the 1967 amateur draft, and appeared in 3 games with the Tigers in 1973, all as a relief pitcher. He had a career earned run average of 3.86, while having a career win/loss record of 0-0. Ignasiak played his final game September 29, 1973.
