Newcastle KB United was an Australian professional association football club based in Newcastle. The club was formed in 1977 and joined the National Soccer League in the 1978 season until they were disbanded from the 1984 National Soccer League and became defunct as Adamstown Rosebud replaced the club for the remainder of the season. The club's first team spent seven seasons in the National Soccer League. The table details the club's achievements in major competitions, and the top scorers for each season.

History

Newcastle KB United entered the National Soccer League in just it's second edition in 1978 National Soccer League. The club finished 11th of 14 in its inaugural season [1] along with finishing in the semi-finals of the NSL Cup. [2] Newcastle KB United came closer to the Finals series spot the next season in 1979 finishing 6th, [3] only a couple points off from the Finals series qualification while also reaching the NSL Cup semi-finals again. From this point onwards, attendance numbers started to fall at home games, [4] while the club had also not been able to reach the Finals series for the next four seasons. The 1983 season which was the last full season played by the club saw their highest finish in the NSL regular season finishing 5th with no Finals series available. In the 1984 season, the club became defunct [5] after playing seven rounds of the 1984 National Soccer League season, and had since then been replaced by another Newcastle club Newcastle Rosebud United for the remainder of the season.

Newcastle KB United are a defunct Australian association football club. They participated in the National Soccer League from 1978 until early in the 1984 season.

The 1978 National Soccer League was the second season of the National Soccer League, the former top-tier Australian professional soccer league, since its establishment in 1977. The premiers were West Adelaide.

The sport of soccer has had a long history in the Newcastle, New South Wales and the wider Hunter Region. The area has had a number of teams involved in national competitions from 1978 through to the present day, being represented by the Newcastle Jets in the A-League.

Graham Jennings is a former Australian association footballer, who played predominantly as a defender and was renowned for his speed, earning him the nickname flash. After a distinguished club and international career spanning twenty years, Jennings was inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame in 1999, receiving the Award of Distinction. Graham is married to wife Louise, and has three children.

The 1978 NSL Cup was the second season of the NSL Cup, which was the main national association football knockout cup competition in Australia. All 14 NSL teams from around Australia entered the competition, as well as a further 18 from various state leagues around Australia.

The 2000–2001 Perth Glory SC season was the club's fifth in the Australian National Soccer League (NSL). The club finished third on the table, losing in the elimination final to the Melbourne Knights. It was the final season in charge for head coach Bernd Stange who left the club in mid-2001.

The 1984 season was the seventh and final season in the history of Newcastle KB United. It was also the seventh and final season in the National Soccer League. They were replaced by Newcastle Rosebud United after Round 5 of the 1984 National Soccer League. Newcastle Rosebud United finished 8th in their National Soccer League season and won the NSL Cup Final against Melbourne Knights.
