Television in Portugal was introduced in 1956 by Radiotelevisão Portuguesa, which held the nationwide television monopoly until late 1992. Regular broadcasting was introduced on March 7, 1957. Colour transmissions were introduced on March 10, 1980.

Digital terrestrial television in Portugal started on 29 April 2009 with currently 7 free-to-air (FTA) channels. In the Azores and Madeira Islands, the respective regional channels are also available. In June 2010 TDT coverage reached 83% of the population and was expected to reach 100% by the end of 2010. The analog switch-off occurred on 26 April 2012. The already four existing analog FTA channels simulcasted in DVB-T, MPEG-4/H.264 (digital), and PAL (analog).

<i>The Gilded Cage</i> (2013 film) 2013 French film

The Gilded Cage is a Franco-Portuguese comedy film released in 2013. The film was Ruben Alves' directorial debut and it was inspired by his parents' life.

The CDP Awards are a series of annual sporting awards given by the Sports Confederation of Portugal to highlight sporting achievements over the preceding year. In addition to honouring athletes and coaches nominated by the national sporting federations within Portugal, awards determined in-part by public voting are also presented. There are currently five awards open to voter participation: Sportsman of the Year, Sportswoman of the Year, and Coach of the Year awards, which were introduced in 2005, and the Young Promise and Team of the Year awards, introduced in 2006 and 2007 respectively.

Os Maias (Alguns) Episódios da Vida Romântica is a 2014 Portuguese film directed by João Botelho and based on the 19th century novel Os Maias by Eça de Queirós. It was released in September 2014.

Portugal participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 1998 with the song "Se eu te pudesse abraçar" written by José Cid. The song was performed by the group Alma Lusa. Songwriter José Cid represented Portugal in the Eurovision Song Contest 1980 with the song "Um grande, grande amor" which placed seventh in the competition. The Portuguese broadcaster Rádio e Televisão de Portugal (RTP) organised the national final Festival da Canção 1998 in order to select the Portuguese entry for the 1998 contest in Birmingham, United Kingdom. The competition took place on 7 March 1998 where "Se eu te pudesse abraçar" performed by Alma Lusa emerged as the winner following the votes from a five-member jury panel.

<i>The Ten Commandments: The Movie</i> 2016 film directed by Alexandre Avancini

The Ten Commandments is a 2016 Brazilian film released by RecordTV in an association with Paris Filmes. It is an adaptation of the eponymous television series presented by Rede Record in 2015, with new footage and different developments of which were shown in its last chapter on television. The adaptation was written by Vivian de Oliveira and directed by Alexandre Avancini, with the same cast as the soap opera.

Jogo de Damas is a 2015 Portuguese drama film directed and written by Patrícia Sequeira and Filipa Leal, and starring Ana Nave, Ana Padrão, Fátima Belo, Maria João Luís and Rita Blanco. It premiered on the Lisbon & Estoril Film Festival in November 2015 and was released in Portugal on January 28, 2016.

The Domain is a 2019 Portuguese drama film directed by Tiago Guedes. It was selected to compete for the Golden Lion at the 76th Venice International Film Festival. It was also selected as the Portuguese entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 92nd Academy Awards, but it was not nominated. A television series version of the film was also released by RTP1.

Deus, Pátria, Autoridade is a 1975 Portuguese film by the filmmaker Rui Simões. It is a feature-length documentary film made up of historic newsreels made by the Estado Novo dictatorship, especially under António de Oliveira Salazar.
