The chart, entitled Contemporary Adult, has undergone numerous name changes and has become Adult Contemporary from 1984 to September 1988, and May 1989 until the magazine's final publication in November 2000. In 1983, 39 individual songs topped the chart, which contained 30 positions and is based on record sales and adult contemporary radio station playlist submissions.

Released as an album track in April 1996 by Interscope Records,the song was initially written as a love song by lead singer Gwen Stefani and her brother,former band member Eric Stefani. However,after several revisions,Gwen reworked the lyrics into a breakup song,reflecting the end of her seven-year relationship with bandmate Tony Kanal.

"Back for Good" is a song by English band Take That from their album Nobody Else (1995). A ballad,"Back for Good" was written by lead singer Gary Barlow and released on March 27,1995. The song hit number one in 31 countries,including the UK. At the 1996 Brit Awards,"Back for Good" won the Brit Award for British Single of the Year.
"The First Cut Is the Deepest" is a 1967 song written by British singer-songwriter Cat Stevens,originally released by P. P. Arnold in April 1967. Stevens's own version originally appeared on his album New Masters in December 1967.
"Don't Know Much" is a song written by Barry Mann,Cynthia Weil and Tom Snow. Mann was the first to record the song in 1980,gaining a minor chart hit in the US. "Torn" is a song written by Scott Cutler,Anne Preven—who composed all of the lyrics—and Phil Thornalley in 1991 as a solo song for Preven. It was recorded and performed live during this period,but not given its first formal release until 1993,when Danish singer Lis Sørensen released the song in Danish under the title "Brændt".

"How Am I Supposed to Live Without You" is a song co-written in 1982 by Doug James and Michael Bolton. The track was originally recorded by Laura Branigan in 1983,charting at number one in both the US and Canadian Adult Contemporary charts. Bolton later recorded his own version of the song that topped the US Billboard Hot 100 and became a worldwide hit.

"Kiss Me" is a song by American pop rock band Sixpence None the Richer from their self-titled third album (1997). The ballad was initially released to modern rock radio on July 14,1998,but was only physically released as a single on August 12,1998,in the United States. It was later issued in international territories the following year. Several music critics compared the song to works by English alternative rock band the Sundays,and it was nominated for a Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals at the 42nd Grammy Awards.
