Prairie View's conference title was forfeited after the SWAC ruled at its winter meeting, on December 13, that the Panthers had used an ineligible player, Whiteside.
The Conference was a hybrid of Division I and II programs. Mississippi Valley State and Prairie View A&M were classified as Division II.[11][12] All the others were classified as Division I.
