The 1954 FIFA World Cup was the 5th edition of the FIFA World Cup, the quadrennial international football tournament for senior men's national teams of the nations affiliated to FIFA. It was held in Switzerland from 16 June to 4 July. Switzerland was selected as the host country in July 1946. At the tournament, several all-time records for goalscoring were set, including the highest average number of goals scored per game. The tournament was won by West Germany, who defeated tournament favourites Hungary 3–2 in the final for their first World Cup title. Uruguay, the defending champions, were eliminated by Hungary and would lose to Austria in the third-place match.

He starred opposite his wife, actress Audrey Hepburn, in War and Peace (1956) and produced her film Wait Until Dark (1967).

Fernando Casado Arambillet, best known as Fernando Rey, was a Spanish film, theatre, and television actor, who worked in both Europe and the United States. A suave, international actor best known for his roles in the films of surrealist director Luis Buñuel and as the drug lord Alain Charnier in The French Connection (1971) and French Connection II (1975), he appeared in more than 150 films over half a century.

"¿Quién será?" is a bolero-mambo song written by Mexican composers Luis Demetrio and Pablo Beltrán Ruiz. Beltrán recorded the song for the first time with his orchestra in 1953. Pedro Infante, for whom the song was written, recorded it in 1954.

It stars Alfredo Barbieri, Amelia Vargas, Esteban Serrador and Susana Campos and was released on March 16, 1954.

Rafael Gil was a Spanish film director and screenwriter. His film La guerra de Dios (1953) won the Bronze Lion at the Venice Film Festival in 1953 and also won best film and best director at the San Sebastián International Film Festival. His film La noche del sábado (1950) was nominated for the Gold Lion at the 1950 Venice Film Festival and his film El beso de Judas (1954) was also nominated for the Gold Lion at the 1954 festival in Venice. His film Let's Make the Impossible! (1958) was nominated for the Golden Berlin Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival. He has won nine prizes of the National Syndicate of Spectacle of Spain.

The Golden Shell is the highest prize given to a competing film at the San Sebastián International Film Festival. It was introduced in 1957. In 1953 and 1954, the highest prize had been called the Gran Premio. In 1955 and 1956 it was replaced by the Silver Shell. Six directors have won the Golden Shell twice: American director Francis Ford Coppola, Spanish director Manuel Gutiérrez Aragón, Mexican director Arturo Ripstein, Spanish director Imanol Uribe, Iranian director Bahman Ghobadi, and Spanish director Isaki Lacuesta.

Cifesa is the acronym for Compañía Industrial Film Española, a noted Spanish film studio. They have released such films as Don Quijote de la Mancha (1947), and the 1954 film version of El alcalde de Zalamea, as well as being responsible for the Spanish release of some Hollywood films. Notable stars include Florián Rey, Benito Perojo, Imperio Argentina, and Miguel Ligero. In 1951, the studio released the historical epic Dawn of America, intended as a response to the big-budget British production Christopher Columbus (1949).
