The Italian ambassador in Algiers is the official representative of the Government in Rome to the Government of Algeria.

Salqin is the center of its nahiya (subdistrict). It had a population of 23,700 in 2004. Its inhabitants are predominantly Sunni Muslims, although there is also a small Alawite community.
