Her Majesty's Ambassador to Oman is the United Kingdom's foremost diplomatic representative in Oman, and is the head of Britain's diplomatic mission in Muscat.
Until 1971 the British representative in Muscat was a Consul-General. Following the accession of Sultan Qaboos in 1970, the Sultan agreed that the Consulate-General should be raised to an embassy, and the first British Ambassador (and the first Ambassador of any country) to the Sultanate, Donald Hawley, presented his credentials to the Sultan on 22 July 1971. [1]
In June 2023, Dr. Liane Saunders OBE became the first female UK ambassador to hold that post following the retirement of William Murray. [2]
The Foreign Ministry is the government body in the Sultanate of Oman responsible for organising and directing Oman's relations with other countries and with regional and international organisations.
Sir Donald Hawley was a British colonial lawyer, diplomat and writer.
James Nicholas Geoffrey Bowden is a British diplomat who was ambassador to Chile from 2018 to 2020.
The British Omani Society (formerly the Anglo-Omani Society)', is a London-based charitable organisation registered in the UK. It seeks to promote and sustain relations between Britain and the Sultanate of Oman. Membership of the society is open to Omani and British nationals who have lived in Oman or who have commercial, cultural or other interests in the Sultanate.
