The British Consul General to Jerusalem is based at 15 Nashashibi Street in Sheikh Jarrah quarter, Jerusalem. The aim of the Consulate General is to represent the United Kingdom in the Palestinian Territories. The Consulate also has an office in Gaza.[ citation needed ]

There was no Consul-General during World War I since the UK was an enemy of the Ottoman Empire. After the war and until 1948, Palestine was a British mandate territory, with District Commissioners. [1]

The Consulate General of the United States in Jerusalem was a diplomatic mission of the United States of America that provided consular services to Palestinian residents in Jerusalem, the West Bank and Gaza. On 4 March 2019, the consulate general was merged into the US Embassy and formally ceased operations. In May 2021, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced that Washington will reopen the consulate, without specifying a date. In September 2021, Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh called on the US administration to speed up the reopening of the consulate general in Jerusalem to handle direct contacts with the Palestinians.

Alastair David McPhail is a British diplomat who was the United Kingdom's first Ambassador to the Republic of South Sudan, appointed in July 2011 when the country gained independence. He had served as consul-general from 16 March 2011. McPhail left South Sudan in March 2013 and was appointed to be British Consul-General in Jerusalem from January 2014. He was replaced in Jerusalem in 2017 and was appointed to be ambassador to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia from January 2019. He took up the post on 28 January 2019.
