The show originally revolved around Deputy Mayor Michael Flaherty (Michael J. Fox), the deputy mayor of New York, who, together with his staff, tries to keep the town running. In 1998, Fox announced that he had Parkinson's disease, and Heather Locklear was cast to reduce Fox's workload. However, Fox announced that he was going to quit the show after the fourth season and was replaced by Charlie Sheen.

Lisa Valerie Kudrow is an American actress. She rose to international fame for her role as Phoebe Buffay in the American television sitcom Friends, which aired from 1994 to 2004. The series earned her Primetime Emmy, Screen Actors Guild, Satellite, American Comedy and TV Guide awards. Phoebe has since been named one of the greatest television characters of all time and is considered to be Kudrow's breakout role, spawning her successful film career.
Timothy Van Patten is an American director, actor, screenwriter, and producer. He has received numerous accolades including two Emmy Awards, a Peabody Award, and two Directors Guild of America Awards as well as nominations for two BAFTA Awards.
