BMCI is a bank based in Morocco. It is a majority-owned subsidiary of the French financial group BNP Paribas.
The foreign relations of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania have, since 1960, been dominated by the issues of the Spanish Sahara and the recognition of its independence by its neighbours, particularly Morocco. Mauritania's foreign relations are handled by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, who is currently Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug.
Presidential elections were held in Mauritania on 11 March 2007. As no candidate received a majority of the votes, a second round was held on 25 March between the top two candidates, Sidi Ould Cheikh Abdallahi and Ahmed Ould Daddah. Abdallahi won the second round with about 53% of the vote and took office in April.
Ahmed Ould Daddah is a Mauritanian economist and a politician. He is a half-brother of Moktar Ould Daddah, the first President of Mauritania, and belongs to the Marabout Ouled Birri tribe. He is currently the President of the Rally of Democratic Forces (RFD) and was designated as the official Leader of the opposition following the 2007 presidential election, in which he placed second.
The Central Bank of Mauritania is the central bank of Mauritania, in northwest Africa. The bank is located in the capital Nouakchott, just south of the Presidential palace. Its current Governor is Mohamed Lemine Ould Dhehby.
Zeine Ould Zeidane is a Mauritanian economist and politician. He placed third as a candidate in the March 2007 presidential election, and he subsequently served as Prime Minister from April 2007 to May 2008.

The Archives Nationales de Mauritanie is the national archives of Mauritania. It was founded in 1955 and hold 3,000 volumes. As of 2007 it was located on Avenue de l'Indépendance. Directors have included Mohamed Ould Gaouad, Izidh Bih Ould Sidi Mohamed, and Mohamed Moctar Ould Sidi Mohamed.
The Banque nationale pour le commerce et l'industrie was a major French bank, active from 1932 to 1966 when it merged with Comptoir national d'escompte de Paris to form Banque Nationale de Paris (BNP). It was itself the successor of the Comptoir d'Escompte de Mulhouse, a bank founded in 1848 under the Second French Republic that had become German following the Franco-Prussian War, and its French subsidiary formed in 1913, the Banque Nationale de Crédit.
The Mauritania Islamic Air Force is the air force of the Armed Forces of Mauritania. It was established in 1960. Like many of the former French colonies, Mauritania received limited economic and military aid from France. The FAIM started out as a French-operated transport force, and has seen combat against the Polisario Front in the 1970s.
