The following article is a list of caves in Slovenia. About 43% of Slovenian territory is of karst nature and over 14,000 caves (2021) are known in Slovenia. [1]
The following show caves were the most visited in 2008 (ordered by the number of visitors): [2]
It includes all the caves in the Slovenian cave registry, at least 1,000 m long and at least 300 m deep (March 2023). [3] The list is sorted on a cave score, obtained as a sum of normalized length (divided by the length of the longest cave, multiplied by 100) and depth (divided by the depth of the deepest cave times 100) - maximal possible score would be 200.

Logatec is a town in Slovenia. It is the seat of the Municipality of Logatec. It is located roughly in the centre of Inner Carniola, between the capital Ljubljana and Postojna. The town of Logatec has seen rapid industrial development and immigration since the completion of the nearby A1 motorway to the coast.
Primož Jakopin, born 30 June 1949 is a Slovenian computer scientist, known for his work in the field of language technology and his contribution to speleology.
Postojna Cave is a 24.34 km (15.12 mi) long karst cave system near Postojna, southwestern Slovenia. It is the second-longest cave system in the country as well as one of its top tourism sites. The caves were created by the Pivka River.
Petzen (German) or Peca (Slovene) is the highest mountain of the eastern Karawanks, the second-highest mountain of the Northern Karawanks and the most eastern two-thousand-metre mountain of Slovenia. It is a mighty mountain with a characteristic shape of a tableland with rocky peaks protruding from it. The mountain borders the Meža Valley and the Topla Valley to the south and east, and the Jaun Valley to the north, and is separated by the narrow valley of the Bela Creek from Hochobir. Two thirds of the mountain lies in Austria, and one third in Slovenia. The mountain reaches its highest elevation on the mountain crest of the Kordež Head. The border runs across it.
The Slovenian Chess Championship is the national chess championship held in Slovenia. The championship has been played since the 1950s, first as a regional championship in the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, and after the independence of Slovenia as a national championship. Before 1991, the championship was usually played as a qualifier for the Yugoslav Chess Championship in which not always the best players participated. This is because the best Slovenian players were often automatically qualified for the championship based on rating or performance in other tournaments.
Trnje is a village east of Pivka in the Inner Carniola region of Slovenia.
Grčarevec is a village between Planina and Kalce in the Municipality of Logatec in the Inner Carniola region of Slovenia. In addition to the main settlement of the village, it also comprises the hamlets of Grčarevski Vrh to the north along the road to Kalce, and Kališe in the forest to the northeast.
Dobec is a small village in the hills north of Begunje in the Municipality of Cerknica in the Inner Carniola region of Slovenia.
Onek is a settlement in the hills east of Kočevje in southern Slovenia. The area is part of the traditional region of Lower Carniola and is now included in the Southeast Slovenia Statistical Region.
Gradišče, sometimes referred to as Gradišče pri Polici, is a small settlement in the Municipality of Grosuplje in central Slovenia. The area is part of the historical region of Lower Carniola, with its community being tied to the large neighboring village of Polica. The municipality is included in the Central Slovenia Statistical Region.
Artur "Conrad" Kozłowski was a Polish cave diver who spent his last years in Ireland. Amongst other achievements in cave exploration, he set the record for the deepest cave dive in Great Britain and Ireland at a depth of 103 m (338 ft).
Boris Sket was a Slovenian zoologist and speleobiologist.
Kuhlarji is a village in the Municipality of Kočevje in southern Slovenia. The area is part of the traditional region of Lower Carniola and is now included in the Southeast Slovenia Statistical Region. It no longer has any permanent residents.
The Migovec System is a 43,009-metre-long (141,000 ft) and 972-metre-deep (3,190 ft) Alpine cave system within Mount Tolmin Migovec in the Municipality of Tolmin in northwestern Slovenia. The mountain and the cave system are part of Triglav National Park. The combined system is the longest known cave in the country, followed by the Postojna Cave System.
The Municipality of Postojna is a municipality in the traditional region of Inner Carniola in southwestern Slovenia. The seat of the municipality is the town of Postojna. The municipality was established in its current form on 3 October 1994, when the former larger Municipality of Postojna was subdivided into the municipalities of Pivka and Postojna.
Charles William (Bill) Steele, Jr. is a cave explorer and speleologist who has led and participated in expeditions to many of the longest and deepest caves in the USA, Mexico, and China. He has explored more than 2,500 caves across North America and Asia and has written two books chronicling his expeditions: Yochib: The River Cave, and Huautla: Thirty Years in One of the World's Deepest Caves. TV shows such as National Geographic Explorer, NOVA and How’d They Do That? have aired programs on his expeditions.
Matthew D. Covington is an American speleologist, most known for his work in hydrogeology and geomorphology, especially in the field of mathematical modeling of karst systems, as well as by his contribution to Cueva Chevé project in Mexico, since 1999.
Tomaž Planina was a Slovenian cave photographer, speleologist, and botanist. He was most known for his work in cave photography, laboratory rope testing, especially in connection to knots, and his contribution to the development of the single-rope technique.
