Barrackpore is a city and a municipality on the northern fringe of Kolkata and situated in North 24 Parganas district in the Indian state of West Bengal. The area is covered by Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA). It is the administrative headquarters of the Barrackpore subdivision.
Ishwar Chandra Bandyopadhyay was an Indian educator and social reformer of the nineteenth century. His efforts to simplify and modernise Bengali prose were significant. He also rationalised and simplified the Bengali alphabet and type, which had remained unchanged since Charles Wilkins and Panchanan Karmakar had cut the first (wooden) Bengali type in 1780.
North 24 Parganas (abv. 24 PGS (N)) or sometimes North Twenty Four Parganas is a district in southern West Bengal, of eastern India. Bangabasi College is a Kolkata-based liberal arts, commerce and sciences college. It offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses of the University of Calcutta. It was founded by Girish Chandra Bose, an educationist, social reformer and agriculturist, in 1887. It was the first nationalist college. It played a major role in the Civil Disobedience Movement of 1930 and the self-sacrifice of Shri Jatindranath Das, an undergraduate student of the college. The college celebrated its 125th anniversary from November 2011 to October 2012. It has been accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council of India (NAAC) with "A" certificate.

Asitkumar Bandyopadhyay(3rd June,1920 – 21 March, 2003) was historian of Bengali literature, professor, researcher and former president of Paschimbanga Bangla Akademi. He got famous due to his book Bangla Sahityer Itibritta which is published in nine volumes.
