He is part of the first generation of the Iranian underground hip hop scene and also one of the first R&B singers in Persian. He is currently in Iran and under arrest for criticizing the Iranian government's human rights record in his songs and on social media.

Presidential elections were held in Iran on 18 June 2021, the thirteenth since the establishment of the Islamic Republic in 1979. Ebrahim Raisi, the then Chief Justice of Iran, was declared the winner in a highly controversial election. The election began with the mass disqualification of popular candidates by the Guardian Council, and broke records of the lowest turnout in Iranian electoral history, as well as had the highest share of protest blank, invalid and lost votes despite a declaration by the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ali Khamenei, considering protest voting religiously forbidden (haraam) as it would "weaken the regime." Reporters Without Borders reported 42 cases of journalists being summoned or threatened for writing about candidates, and the chief of the police threatened people who discouraged others to vote.

Masoud Molavi Vardanjani was an Iranian scientist killed by Iranian intelligence in Istanbul, Turkey. It was claimed he was part of Iranian cyber defense program part of IRGC and Iranian defense ministry, then turned critic of the government he had a Telegram channel titled blackbox which released informational documents about corruption in office of the supreme leader, Iranian judicial system and Iranian armed forces, before migrating from Iran he was called a genius inventor. Reuters had reported that Iranian diplomatic officers of Iranian consulate in Turkey helped assassinate him.

Ghazal "Mona" Heydari was an Iranian Arab teenage girl who was beheaded in Ahvaz, Iran in an honour killing by her husband. Mona and her husband were first cousins. Pictures and videos of her husband, Sajjad Heydari, smiling while carrying her head, caused widespread outrage in Iran. In the aftermath of the beheading, her husband and her brother-in-law were arrested by Iranian police.

Khodanur Lojei or Lajai was an Iranian protester from Zahedan, who was killed during the 2022 Zahedan massacre, one of the Mahsa Amini protests. A picture of him with his hands tied to a flagpole with a bottle of water put in front of him has become one of the symbols of the ongoing protests Iran.

Death sentences during the Mahsa Amini protests is a list of Iranian citizens sentenced to death or charged with crimes punishable by death in the Islamic Republic of Iran during the Mahsa Amini protests. Following rushed trials that were widely criticized by human rights organizations, the Islamic Republic has executed eight protestors, Mohsen Shekari, Majidreza Rahnavard, Mohammad Mehdi Karami, Seyyed Mohammad Hosseini, Saleh Mirhashemi, Majid Kazemi, Saeed Yaghoobi and Mohammad Ghobadloo. Dozens of protesters have been charged with offenses that are punishable by death in Iran.

Hamid Ghareh-Hassanlou was arrested in nationwide protests in Iran after the death of Mahsa Amini. He is a Gonabadi dervish and a medical doctor who specializes in medical imaging. He was charged with killing a Basiji member during the funerals of Hadis Najafi by the Islamic Revolutionary Court in Karaj. His wife, Farzaneh Ghareh-Hassanlou was arrested the same day. They were reportedly beaten during the arrest, and Hamid's ribs were later reported broken.

On May 12, 2020, Reza Ashrafi, the father of 14-year old Iranian girl Romina Ashrafi killed her as she slept in the family home in Sefid Sangan, Talesh, Gilan province.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps Cyber Security Command is a command of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps responsible for cyber warfare and cyber security. It was founded in 2006(1386), its command was established in 2015(1393).
