Friesland, historically known as Frisia, is a province of the Netherlands located in the country's northern part. It is situated west of Groningen, northwest of Drenthe and Overijssel, north of Flevoland, northeast of North Holland and south of the Wadden Sea. As of January 2020, the province had a population of 649,944 and a total area of 5,749 km2 (2,220 sq mi).
Leeuwarden is a city and municipality in Friesland, Netherlands. It is the provincial capital and seat of the Provincial Council of Friesland. In 2019, the municipality had a population of 123,107.

Saskia van Uylenburgh was the wife of painter Rembrandt van Rijn. In the course of her life, she was his model for some of his paintings, drawings and etchings. She was the daughter of Rombertus Uylenburg, the mayor as well as the justice of the Court of Friesland.

Rombertus van Uylenburgh or Rombout van Uylenborgh is best known as the father of Saskia van Uylenburgh, the wife of Rembrandt. Rombertus was one of the founders of the University of Franeker in 1585. Gerrit van Uylenburgh, who may have been Rombertus' brother, tended to Mennonitism, left for Poland to become the royal furniture maker in Crakow, and became the father of the art-dealer Hendrick van Uylenburgh.

Boezemmolen is a smock mill in Tijnje, Friesland, Netherlands which was built in 1856 and dismantled in 1911. Formerly converted to residential use, the mill is under restoration. It is listed as a Rijksmonument.

Trained as a history teacher during World War II, he was acting mayor of Bolsward and mayor of Dokkum, and then for twenty years a representative in the Provincial States of Friesland. He served for two years in the Dutch Senate for the Anti-Revolutionary Party, and then became mayor of Kampen.
Drs. Ferdinandus Johannes Maria Crone is a Dutch politician. He was born in Dordrecht in 1954. On 15 November 2007 he became mayor of Leeuwarden. He remained mayor until the 26th of August 2019 when he was replaced by Sybrand Buma. As of February 2020 he is a member of the First Chamber of the States General.
