Vijayawada, formerly known as Bezawada, is the second largest city in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is located on the banks of the Krishna River surrounded by the hills of the Eastern Ghats, known as the Indrakeeladri Hills. The city is home to the important Hindu shrine of Kanaka Durga Temple. It geographically lies on the center spot of Andhra Pradesh. The city has been described as the commercial, political, cultural and educational capital of Andhra Pradesh. It is the administrative headquarters of NTR district. The Prakasam Barrage across the Krishna River connects the NTR and Guntur districts.
Dr. Panabaka Lakshmi is an Indian politician and Former Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare (2004-2009) and Union Minister of State for Textile (2009-2012). She represents the Bapatla constituency of Andhra Pradesh and was a member of the Indian National Congress in combined Andhra Pradesh. Now she is a part of Telugu Desam Party (TDP).
Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is the municipal corporation that governs most of Delhi, India. Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is the civic body that governs the inner limits of Pune, India. It is in charge of the civic needs and infrastructure of the metropolis, which is spread over an area of 484.61 sq. km. and has 3.4 million residents. Established on 15 February 1950, the executive power of the PMC is vested in the Municipal Commissioner, an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer appointed by the Government of Maharashtra. The position is held by Vikram Kumar, IAS.The general body of the PMC consists of 162 directly elected councilors, popularly known as "corporators", headed by a mayor. Murlidhar Mohol (BJP) was elected as the mayor and Sunita Wadekar as the deputy mayor by the newly elected in April 2021. The land for Pune Municipal Corporation was donated by Late Hon. Shri. Bhausaheb Shirole (Patil) who was second Mayor of Pune city and later became an MLC. The Pune Municipal Corporation has launched an e-Governance initiative, with the goal of leveraging Information Technology to mobilize Government resources and optimize their utilization in order to provide a superior level of service.
The Nashik Municipal Corporation(NMC), is the governing body of the city of Nashik in the Indian state of Maharashtra. The municipal corporation consists of democratically elected members, is headed by a mayor and administers the city's infrastructure, public services and police. Members from the state's leading political parties such as the Nationalist Congress Party, Indian National Congress, Shiv Sena, Bhartiya Janata Party, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) hold elected offices in the corporation. In January 2021, the number of wards were increased to 98 from 81 earlier.
Rajamahendravaram Municipal Corporation is the civic body that governs the city of Rajamahendravaram in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is spread over an area of 44.50 km2 (17.18 sq mi).
Machilipatnam Municipal Corporation is the civic body that governs the city of Machilipatnam in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. Machilipatnam was upgraded to corporation, but it continues to be a municipality till the expiry of its present elected council. Tambaram City Municipal Corporation (TCMC) is a local government of the City of Tambaram within the Chennai Metropolitan Area of Tamil Nadu, India. It covers an area of 87.64 sq. km in the Chengalpattu district, and has an estimated 2021 population of 960,887.
Golden Mile project was first smart street project in India. It is planned and under operational on M.G. Road in Vijayawada. The stretch from Police Control room to Benz Circle of length 2.9 km was selected for this project. It was selected as a Proof of Concept for smart city initiative of Government of Andhra Pradesh. The project was supported by Cisco Systems and was formally approved after 2 years on 2015. This project provides facilities like free Wi-Fi, Intelligent street lighting, smart parking Facility, Smart kiosks and connected transport on M.G. Road. All the equipment can be controlled and monitored by City Digital Platform (CDP) in Vijayawada Municipal Corporation office. It costs around ₹7.83 crore of which CISCO provides all the expertise and components worth ₹3.81 crore. Andhra Pradesh Urban Finance & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited shares ₹3 crore and VMC shares ₹62 lakh.
The state of Andhra Pradesh held urban local bodies elections on 30 March 2014. This included 10 Municipal Corporations, and 145 Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats. Elections in the remaining bodies were not held due to issues such as court cases, delays in the preparation of electoral rolls, problems in the delimitation of wards, and the creation of new bodies.
The 2021 Vijayawada Municipal Corporation election was held on 10 March 2021 to elect 64 councillors of the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation. The votes were counted and the results were declared on 14 March 2021. The YSR Congress Party emerged victorious and subsequently Rayana Bhagya Lakshmi was elected as the Mayor for the corporation.
The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation is in charge of the civic administration and infrastructure of the city of Vijayawada. The corporation was formed in 1981 by upgrading from municipality status. Many other neighbourhoods were later merged into the corporation limits to a total area of 61.88 km2 (23.89 sq mi), located in Krishna district. It is adjoined by the Legislative capital of Andhra Pradesh, Amaravati. It was also been part of Andhra Pradesh Capital Region. The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation is divided into 77 wards. Each ward is headed by a corporator, elected by popular vote. The corporators elect The City Mayor who is the titular head of the corporation. Its executive powers lie with the Municipal Commissioner appointed by the Government of Andhra Pradesh. The Andhra Pradesh State Election Commission monitors the municipal elections that are held in the city once in every five years. The last elections were held on 10 March 2021.
Rayana Bhagya Lakshmi is a politician and businesswoman from Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, India. She is currently serving as the 12th mayor of Vijayawada. Lakshmi is associated with YSR Congress Party.
Legislative Assembly elections are scheduled to be held in Andhra Pradesh on 13 May 2024 to elect the 175 members of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly. The votes will be counted and the results will be declared on 4 June 2024.
Avadi City Municipal Corporation is the civic body governing the City of Avadi, in Chennai Metropolitan Area in the Tiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu, India. Avadi City Municipal Corporation has 48 wards with a population of 6.1 lakh spreads over 65 sqkm. It is headed by a executive mayor and governed by a commissioner. It is one of the four municipal corporations within the Chennai Metropolitan Area, the other three being the central Greater Chennai Corporation,the satellite Tambaram City Municipal Corporation and the Kancheepuram City Municipal Corporation
