Multan is a city in Punjab, Pakistan, located on the bank of Chenab River. Multan is one of the five largest urban centres of Pakistan in 2024 and is the major cultural, religious and economic centre of Southern Punjab. Multan is known for its rich ancient heritage and historic landmarks. The city is one of the oldest inhabited cities of Asia, with a history stretching deep into antiquity. A historic capital of Punjab and a significant cultural centre of Indus Valley civilization. Multan region was centre of many civilizations in its 5 millennia old history.

The Sayyid dynasty was the fourth dynasty of the Delhi Sultanate, with four rulers ruling from 1414 to 1451 for 37 years. The first ruler of the dynasty, Khizr Khan, who was the Timurid vassal of Multan, conquered Delhi in 1414, while the rulers proclaimed themselves the Sultans of the Delhi Sultanate under Mubarak Shah, which succeeded the Tughlaq dynasty and ruled the Sultanate until they were displaced by the Lodi dynasty in 1451.

It has seating capacity for 35,000 spectators. The stadium hosted its first test match in August 2001, when Pakistan faced Bangladesh in the 2001–02 Asian Test Championship.

The Multan Fort was a historic fort in the city of Multan. According to some estimates the original fort was built by Katoch Rajput Dynasty of Kangra or Trigarta kingdom between 800 and 1000 B.C. However, it was later destroyed. It was rebuilt by Ranghar chiefs near the city of Multan, on a hillock separated from the city by the Ravi River. The fort was destroyed by British forces during British colonial rule.

2023 Pakistan Super League was the eighth season of the Pakistan Super League, a franchise Twenty20 cricket league which was established by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in 2015. Then PCB chairman Ramiz Raja had hinted at an auction based system to replace the draft for the 2023 season but a draft was retained. The draft for the tournament was held on 15 December in Karachi. A total of 36 foreign players were picked alongside local players. Lahore Qalandars were the defending champions.
