  • Cordova High School – (The school was placed into the Memphis City Schools system in fall 2004) – Cordova High School serves some areas within the Shelby County Schools area that are zoned to Shelby County Schools-operated schools for elementary and middle school.
  • Kirby High School – Hickory Hill was annexed by the City of Memphis in December 1998, thus placing the school in the Memphis City Schools system in fall 1999. Kirby primarily serves the southeast area of Memphis going to the current city-unincorporated county boundary line. Outside of this boundary, all schools are zoned to the Shelby County Schools.
  • Northside High School – Closed in 2016 due to low enrollment. [8]
  • Raleigh-Egypt High School – Annexed with Raleigh in the 1970s. Serves the west and northwest area of Raleigh.

Frayser is a neighborhood on the north side of Memphis, Tennessee, United States. It is named after Memphis physician Dr. J Frayser, who owned a summer home near the railroad. Frayser's boundaries are the Wolf River to the south, the Mississippi River to the west, the Loosahatchie River to the north, and ICRR tracks to the east. The population of Frayser is approximately 45,000.

The Memphis–Clarksdale-Forrest City Combined Statistical Area, TN–MS–AR (CSA) is the commercial and cultural hub of the Mid-South or Ark-Miss-Tenn. The census-defined combined statistical area covers eleven counties in three states, Tennessee, Mississippi, and Arkansas. As of 2020 census, the Memphis metropolitan area had a population of 1,389,905 The Forrest City, Arkansas Micropolitan area was added to the Memphis area in 2012 to form the Memphis–Forrest City Combined Statistical area. In 2023 the Clarksdale, Mississippi Micropolitan area was also added to form the new Memphis-Clarksdale-Forrest City Combined Statistical Area which as of 2023 had a population of roughly 1.4 million people according to census estimates.

Raleigh is a community in north-central Memphis, Tennessee, United States, named for a formerly incorporated town that used to be at its center. Raleigh is bordered on the west by the community of Frayser, on the east by the incorporated suburb of Bartlett, on the south by the Wolf River and Interstate 40, and on the north by the Memphis city limits. The former town of Raleigh was the first county seat of Shelby County, Tennessee.

State Route 385 (SR 385) is the designation for two non-contiguous segments of east–west controlled-access highway in the Memphis metropolitan area in Shelby County, Tennessee, separated by a section of Interstate 269 (I-269). The northern section, designated as Paul W. Barret Parkway runs between U.S. Route 51 in Millington and I-40 in Arlington, both of which are suburbs of Memphis. The southern segment, known as Bill Morris Parkway, runs between I-240 in southeastern Memphis, and I-269 in Collierville, and also serves the city of Germantown. The northern segment, combined with I-269, serves as a partial outer beltway around Memphis, and the southern segment serves as a spur route between the city and its southeastern suburbs, and is notable for its almost-exclusive use of single-point urban interchanges (SPUIs).

Memphis City Schools (MCS) was the school district operating public schools in the city of Memphis, Tennessee, United States. It was headquartered in the Frances E. Coe Administration Building. On March 8, 2011, residents voted to disband the city school district, effectively merging it with the Shelby County School District. The merger took effect July 1, 2013. After much legal maneuvering, all six incorporated municipalities created separate school districts in 2014. Total enrollment, as of the 2010-2011 school year, was about 103,000 students, which made the district the largest in Tennessee.

News Channel 3 Knowledge Bowl is a quiz bowl program created by WREG-TV in Memphis, Tennessee. It first aired in 1987 for the 1987–88 school year. Knowledge Bowl participants earn prizes depending on their standings.

Eads is an unincorporated community in Shelby County, Tennessee, United States, named after Civil War engineer James Buchanan Eads. Some parts of Eads have been annexed by the city of Memphis. Some of its area is currently still unincorporated. Eads is located north of Collierville, west of Somerville, east of Memphis and Bartlett. The Eads zip code (38028) stretches into both Shelby County and Fayette County, including parts of Hickory Withe and Fisherville. Major roads in the community include Winfield Dunn Parkway, U.S. Route 64, Collierville-Arlington Road/Airline Road, and Seward Road.

Collierville Schools is a municipal school district that serves approximately 9,000 students in Collierville, Tennessee. It was formed by secession from Shelby County Schools in 2014.
