Lonnie Hanzon (born September 1, 1959) is a Colorado-based installation artist and television personality, best known for designing the gateway sculpture Evolution of the Ball at Coors Field in Denver, Colorado. [1] His work includes outdoor urban entertainment projects that extend across many acres, and immersive visual merchandising displays.
Hanzon was raised in Pine, Colorado. [2] [3] Immediately after completing high school he performed as a singer, dancer and magician between 1974 and 1981.
A largely self-educated artist, he made his own costumes and sets. [1] [4] He later transitioned into design when other performers such as Paratakeori, Foan Family Circus, the Berg & Prince Mime Company, among others began requesting costumes. He started designing store interiors and window dressings in 1981, and high fashion jewelry in 1982. In 2010 he won first place in the Paper Fashion Show put on by The One Club For Creativity Denver (Formerly Art Directors Club of Denver). [5] [6]
Lanzon's window dressings garnered local, and then national attention, and led to commissions for increasingly larger and more complex interior and exterior commercial design projects and installations. His Christmas window display 12/25: A Holiday Store in Omaha in 1987 was the first for which retailers were compelled to charge admission to control crowds. [7] He uses a variety of materials including "fabric, steel, glass, sugar, paint, foam, music, water, and electricity". [8]
Hanzon went on to design major public works and commissioned displays throughout the 90s to the present, including installations in Hong Kong where he did the Christmas decorations for a mall that measured 1,000,000 square feet (93,000 m2). [2] At the time it was the largest such holiday installation in Hong Kong's history. [3] He also did work in Houston, Dallas, [9] Las Vegas, and, most frequently, in Colorado. In addition to his "Evolution of the Ball" display at Coors Field, Hanzon has produced other installations throughout Colorado [10] including at the Red Rocks Community College, Kenneth King Performing Arts Center, Denver Botanic Gardens, and Olde Town Arvada.
Hanzon directed and designed the revitalization and renovation of Denver's downtown holiday scene between 1998 and 2000. He installed displays on the mile-long Pedestrian Mall [11] in historic Larimer Square and Union Station, and around Lower Downtown. He held the title of wizard in residence and creative director at the Museum of Outdoor Arts [12] during which time he designed the Hudson Holiday display at the Hudson Gardens and Events Center in Littleton in 2009 and 2010. [2] [8] Hanzon also rebuilt the annual Parade of Lights in Denver, [3] giving new life to thirteen electrical floats and hundreds of costumed paraders. His projects emphasize storytelling through interactive art and multi-media.
Hanzon worked with LucasArts Attractions, a division of LucasFilm, from 1990 to 1991 as Lead Show Producer, where he worked on the re-development concept for 42nd Street and Times Square as well as entertainment projects in Hawaii, Japan, Houston and Hollywood.
Hanzon headlined three HGTV holiday specials, from 2003 to 2005, that featured his work on Neiman Marcus' annual holiday extravaganza. [3] A 2008 window display he designed for a store in Cherry Creek North was featured on a special holiday windows program on HGTV. [13] He also hosted HGTV's Holiday Windows Specials in 2006 and 2009, a program produced by High Noon Entertainment. In 2005, The Food Network aired a special in which Hanzon took the ultimate BBQ Rig Design Challenge. [14]

Christmas lights are lights often used for decoration in celebration of Christmas, often on display throughout the Christmas season including Advent and Christmastide. The custom goes back to when Christmas trees were decorated with candles, which symbolized Christ being the light of the world. The Christmas trees were brought by Christians into their homes in early modern Germany.
The Hudson Gardens & Event Center is a botanical garden and event venue located in Littleton, Colorado, 12 miles southwest of Denver. The property is composed of thirty acres of garden exhibits, trails, natural terrain, and event venues.
The Colorado Convention Center (CCC) is a multi-purpose convention center located in Downtown Denver, Colorado. At 2,200,000 square feet it is currently the 12th largest convention center in the United States. It opened in June 1990; the first event being the NBA draft for the Denver Nuggets. The convention center was expanded in 2004 to include several meeting rooms, two ballrooms and an indoor amphitheater. Since opening, the center hosts an average of around 400 events per year. Centrally located in the city, it has become one of Denver's many landmarks due to its architecture and is adjacent to the Denver Performing Arts Complex and is just blocks away from the Colorado State Capitol, Auraria Campus and the 16th Street Mall. The CCC is directly served via light rail by RTD's Theatre District–Convention Center station.

Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre is an 18,000-person capacity amphitheatre located in Greenwood Village, Colorado, United States. It is the largest outdoor amphitheatre in the Denver metropolitan area and is generally open every year from May to September.
The Winter Garden Atrium is a 120 ft (37 m), 10-story glass-vaulted pavilion on Vesey Street in New York City's Brookfield Place office complex. Designed by Diana Balmori, the Atrium was originally constructed in 1988, and substantially rebuilt in 2002, after it was damaged by the collapse of the World Trade Center during the September 11 attacks. The Atrium houses various plants, trees, flowers, and shops. The rear of the building opens onto the World Financial Center Plaza and the North Cove Yacht Harbor on the Hudson River. Over the years, the Atrium has become home to various exhibits and holiday displays.

The Littleton Main Street is a historic district located along W. Main Street, from South Curtice Street, to South Sycamore Street in Littleton, Colorado. The district dates from 1890. The nineteenth century buildings are red pressed brick, many with stone foundations and trim. These buildings replaced smaller frame structures from the pioneer era and proclaimed the success of their builders through solid construction and application of exterior ornament.

Patsy Ann Norvell (1942–2013) was an American visual artist who worked in sculpture, installation art and public art. She was a pioneering feminist artist active in the Women's movement since 1969. In 1972 she was a founder of A.I.R. Gallery which was the first cooperative gallery in the U.S. that showed solely women's work. Her work has been exhibited in galleries and museums in the U.S. and abroad. She received numerous grants, awards and residencies for her achievements, including the Pollock-Krasner Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts. She created permanent public art works for the New York City subway system, designed and created lobby and plaza installations in Los Angeles, CA, New Brunswick, NJ, Bridgeport, CT, and Bethesda, MD. Her work has received historical and critical acclaim, and has been written about in books, journals and newspapers including, Art in the Land: A Critical Anthology of Environmental Art, in Sculpture (magazine), the Los Angeles Times, The New York Times and numerous other publications.
Mel Tanner was an American light sculptor, painter, installation artist, and videographer. His wife, Dorothy Tanner, was an American light sculptor, installation artist, musician, videographer, and spoken word artist based in Denver, Colorado. The couple worked very closely for over 40 years. Their main project was the creation of Lumonics that consists of their light sculptures, live projection, video, electronics, and music as a total art installation. Author and art historian, Michael Betancourt, described this visual music performance work as a Gesamtkunstwerk in his book, The Lumonics Theater: The Art of Mel & Dorothy Tanner, published in 2004.
Nicole Anona Banowetz is a Denver based artist who is known for creating giant inflatable sculpture of microscopic creatures. Her work has been shown internationally appearing in shows in the Netherlands, Russia, Sweden, Taiwan, and Poland. Her works frequently appears at festivals around the world.
Virginia H. Fraser was an American activist for human rights, women's rights, and elder rights. She was the Long-Term Care Ombudsman for the state of Colorado for more than two decades. She co-wrote several works on nursing home care and eldercare. She was inducted into the Colorado Women's Hall of Fame in 2002.
Arlene Slavin is a painter, sculptor, and a print-maker whose practice also includes large-scale public art commissions. Slavin is a 1977 National Endowment for the Arts Grant recipient.
