History

The plan was to operate a domestic carrier based in Ratmalana and Mattala airports, serving 12 destinations within Sri Lanka, and eventually expanding to routes in India and the Maldives. However, the launch was delayed, and a revised timeline targeted a 2026 launch, although no official confirmation has been made.

As of late 2025, Lotus Air remains a proposed project and has not begun flying. The aviation industry in Sri Lanka has seen several proposed airline ventures that generate initial interest but often fail to materialize, and it remains uncertain if Lotus Air will become operational.
