"Love at First Light" is a song by Singaporean artiste, Olivia Ong and child actress, Natanya Tan. Written by Paul Tan and composed by Iskandar Ismail, it was officially commissioned as the official theme song to the 2012 national day parade of Singapore, together with the 1995 National Day Parade song, My People, My Home which was reused for National Day in 2012. On 9 August, the song was performed twice, once by the Combined School Choirs and later by the duo themselves in a techno pop version. The techno pop version was incorporated into a medley, which includes song like "Stand Up For Singapore", "One People, One Nation, One Singapore", "Count On Me Singapore", "Home" and "We Are Singapore". The song's title is a play on the phrase, " Love at first sight ".

Background

Alongside Paul Tan, local composer, Iskandar Ismail teamed up with him to write, produce and compose the song in early 2012. In an interview with Paul Tan on The Straits Times section, "Digital Life", Paul stated that Iskandar wanted a child to sing for the first verse of the song. [2] 7 year old, Natanya Tan was picked along with Olivia as a duet, making Natanya to date the 2nd youngest NDP theme song singer after Shanice Nathan (who was then 7 when she sang the 2004 theme song, "Home"). On the 12 July 2012, it was officially announced and released in a press conference at Gardens by the Bay. [3] Olivia gave her comment on the song, stating that "Love At First Light is about the determination of Singaporeans in a young nation, (and how they) are trying to build their dreams and goals.".

The video, which was sponsored by the Defence Science and Technology Agency, is directed by Aaron Tan. It takes viewers through daily life in Singapore and reflects on its cultural identity.

Kelvin Tan Wei Lian is a Singaporean former Mandopop singer who earned a living as a busker before he won the first edition of Project SuperStar in 2005. He also had a solo concert at the Singapore Expo, lead a choir at the opening ceremony at the 2008 Summer Paralympics and singing Singapore's 2009 National Day Parade's theme song.

The single is the first NDP theme song to be available for free digital download. The song was performed twice during the National Day Parade. Once as a dance version by Sezairi Sezali and Sylvia Ratonel as the Prime Minister of Singapore took his seat during the parade. And later in the performance sequence of the parade in its original tune, sung by Corrinne herself. This song was also performed during the NDP 2015.

"There's No Place I'd Rather Be" is a song sung by Singaporean artiste, Kit Chan. Along with Will you, it serves as the official theme to the National Day Parade in 2007. The single is one of the few National Day Parade themes that doesn't mention Singapore's name. The song was originally written for Singapore Polytechnic's, "Musical Superstar: The Pop Musical". Nathaniel Hartono Xiang, professionally known as Nathan Hartono, is a Singaporean singer-songwriter and actor. Hartono made his debut as a singer after he won the Teenage Icon singing competition in 2005 and released his debut album, LET ME SING! Life, Love and All That Jazz in 2006.

Linying is a Singaporean singer-songwriter. She recently signed on a multi-rights deal with Universal Music Singapore, becoming the first Singapore female artist to do so, and Canadian music label Nettwerk Music Group. Iskandar Mirza Ismail was a prominent Singaporean musician who worked as a composer, arranger, conductor, music director, recording producer, performer and educator in his long career. In recognition of his extensive contributions to the music scene of Singapore, he was awarded the Cultural Medallion in 2008.

Paul Tan Kim Liang is a Singaporean poet and current deputy chief executive of the National Arts Council (NAC) of Singapore.
