Love at Last is an American heavy progressive metal band from Tampa, Florida, founded as Akeldama in 2011 by vocalist, songwriter, and producer Andrew Zink. After releasing their debut EP and full-length studio album, the band changed their name in March 2017 which also marked the group's new line-up. Their second full-length album is planned for release in 2019 on Hollowed Records.

History

2011–2013: Formation and EP

Akeldama formed as a six-piece heavy progressive metal band in Tampa, Florida in mid-2011 by vocalist, guitarist, songwriter, and producer Andrew Zink. [1] [2] After he left his previous group, Zink began to write and record songs on his own and released them on-line which drew some attention. He then recruited several musician friends to learn the material with the prospect of having it performed live. They settled on Akeldama as their name, based on an alias Zink had used on various online forums and video games accounts. [2]

On March 28, 2011, Akeldama released their three-track self-titled EP as a free download. [1] It was recorded in Zink's home facility Zink Audio, and he is credited as the sole producer, mixer, and prominent songwriter, with the other members adding their own sections to Zink's ideas. [1] In October 2012, Akeldama performed a set at the eighth edition of the heavy metal Euroblast Festival in Cologne, Germany. [2] Zink and Reibling had asked its founder John Sprich if the band could perform at the event, to which Sprich agreed on the condition that they fund their trip to Cologne and perform without any promotion. Soon after, Sprich met the band in Florida during a family visit and attended a late night rehearsal. [1] Schweitzer recalled: "He was really humbling because we thought, at the time, that we were doing everything right ... and he just put us down on our asses and told us that we were doing everything wrong". [1] Upon Sprich's suggestion of having the band release a music video online, one was made to "Motionless; Emotionless" using an iPhone. [1] Akeldama followed their Euroblast set with a small scale European tour supporting Scar Symmetry. [1]

2013–present: Everything Beautiful and upcoming album

Akeldama's first full-length studio album, Everything Beautiful, was released independently without a record signing on September 6, 2013. [1] [3] It is a concept album based on what Zink described as "two souls who are tied together for eternity through love", [2] and features Skyharbor guitarist Keshav Dhar, vocalist Ashe O'Hara formerly of TesseracT, and Scar Symmetry guitarist Per Nilsson. [1] [3] The title track was released as its lead single, a song that Zink said "sets the stage for everything". [2] It was a critical success, with the album entering the top albums list on metal websites GotDjent and Mind Equals Blown. [3] In June 2014, Akeldama secured a two album distribution deal with the independent label Rogue Records America. To commemorate the signing, the Akeldama EP was remastered and made available as a free digital download. In addition, the band became a part of Project Rogue, a collaborative video project involving members of various rock and metal bands. [3]

On 20 March 2017 the group announced the end to Akeldama and their new name, Love at Last. [4] [5] The news coincided with the departure of guitarist and vocalist Jeremy Knapp after his decision to become a fire fighter, so Reibling became guitarist and Zink the band's now sole vocalist. [5] [4] Following a recording deal with the independent label Hollowed Records, their second full-length studio album is planned for release in 2018. [4] In a video posted on the band's Facebook page in October 2017, Owen revealed an upcoming lead single, and described the musical direction of Love at Last as similar to Akeldama with less emphasis on Reibling's harsh vocals and greater use of Zink's higher pitched singing. [6] Owen said the band's name is meant to reflect the musical style and themes addressed in the songs, including positivity and a "love conquers all" feel. [6] The new album was originally to be a double concept album, but the idea changed into a single album without an overall theme. [6] A 2019 release is scheduled.

They were awarded the Revolver Golden God award for "Best New Talent" in 2009. The group currently consists of guitarists Chris Garza and Mark Heylmun, drummer Alex Lopez, bassist Dan Kenny, and vocalist Hernan "Eddie" Hermida.

Ronny Munroe is an American heavy metal singer, most noted as the lead vocalist of the heavy metal band Metal Church from 2003 until the band broke up in 2009. His second tenure with the band lasted from 2012 when the group reunited until 2014, where he left to "pursue other interests". He also had a brief stint as the vocalist for Lillian Axe. He was also the lead singer of progressive rock band Presto Ballet. In October 2011 Munroe joined the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, as a vocalist.

Dan Nelson is an American singer-songwriter, guitarist and bassist from New York City. A solo artist, he is currently the singer, songwriter and guitarist for the band Dan Nelson and The Contention.

The Faceless American heavy metal band

The Faceless are an American technical death metal band from the Encino neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. They released their debut album, Akeldama, in November 2006, and a follow-up, Planetary Duality, in November 2008. The band's third album, Autotheism, was released on August 14, 2012. On December 1, 2017, the band released their fourth album, In Becoming a Ghost. It was their first album in over five years.

In Fear and Faith American rock band

In Fear and Faith was an American rock band from San Diego, California. Formed in 2006, the group was signed to Rise Records and released three studio albums and two EPs. Their debut full-length, Your World on Fire, being released nearly a year after the band's signing to Rise in 2008, peaked at No. 193 on the Billboard 200. Their second full-length album, Imperial was released the following year and failed to make that chart, but did chart on the Top Heatseekers and overall Indie chart in the US. The band has undergone many line-up changes since its formation, and does not feature any consistent original members since the departure of guitarist Ramin Niroomand and drummer Mehdi Niroomand in 2014; vocalist Scott Barnes is the only current member of the band to have performed on all of the group's studio albums, though he is not an original member; likewise, although current bassist Tyler McElhany is a founding member of the band himself, he was out of the group from 2011 to 2014 and did not contribute to their third album, In Fear and Faith.

Attack Attack! (American band) American metalcore band

Attack Attack! is an American metalcore band from Westerville, Ohio, formed in 2007 originally as Ambiance, later changing their name. Attack Attack!'s first release, an independent EP titled If Guns Are Outlawed, Can We Use Swords?, was released in 2007, which led to the signing of the band to Rise Records the same year. They released three full-length albums, Someday Came Suddenly, a self-titled album, and This Means War all through Rise Records. The band left Rise Records in 2012 and disbanded the following year after a farewell tour. On October 19, 2020 the band announced a reunion.

Xerath were an English heavy metal band from Basingstoke, Hampshire, England. The band formed in 2007, and gained international recognition after the release of their debut album I (One) via Candlelight Records in 2009, a record label they stuck with throughout their existence.

Oracles is a Belgian band formed, by the couple Sven de Caluwé and Miri Milman and featuring members from Israel, Netherlands, Greece and the US. On March 13, 2014, the band had announced an indefinite hiatus and disbanded after a messy divorce between Sven and Miri, but reformed in December 2014 as Oracles, with Sanna Salou, from Dimlight, on vocals. In 2020, Miri Milman reformed System Divide, and released a new single.

Tesseract are an English progressive metal band from Milton Keynes, England. The band, formed in 2003, consists of Daniel Tompkins, Alec "Acle" Kahney, James Monteith, Amos Williams, and Jay Postones. The band is currently signed to Kscope. They are credited as one of the bands to pioneer the djent movement in progressive metal. As of 2018, Tesseract have released four studio albums: One, Altered State, Polaris, and Sonder, as well as a live album, Odyssey/Scala, and the extended plays Concealing Fate, Perspective and Errai.

Amaranthe Swedish/Danish heavy metal band

The band blends polyrhythmic passages and extremely low tunings with a heavily layered production style and ambient soundscapes. They are often categorized in the djent movement due to the Meshuggah-like guitar tone they often employ. The band was formed after the split of Longchat, a band which featured Igor Omodei and Benoit Friedrich.

Monuments (metal band)

Monuments are a British progressive metal band formed by former Fellsilent guitarist, John Browne, and former Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza guitarist, Josh Travis. The band has released three full-length albums via Century Media Records, Gnosis, The Amanuensis and Phronesis in 2012, 2014 and 2018 respectively.

Means End was a Swedish progressive metal band from Stockholm whose sound is spearheaded by SATB choirs, operatic vocals, eight-string guitars, and jazz-fusion compositions. Their music is likened to an amalgamation of artists such as Eric Whitacre, Devin Townsend, Meshuggah, Yellowjackets. They are notable for bridging the gap between classical composition and contemporary instrumentalism.

Eidola is an American rock band from Salt Lake City, Utah, formed in 2011. The band currently consists of lead vocalist Andrew Michael Wells, lead guitarist Sergio Medina, bass guitarist James Johnson, rhythm guitarist and vocalist Matthew Dommer, and drummer Matthew Hansen. They released their debut studio album, The Great Glass Elephant, in 2012, before signing to Blue Swan Records. The band released their second and third albums, Degeneraterra, in 2015, and To Speak, To Listen, in 2017.

Wolf & Bear is an American post-hardcore band formed in Sacramento, California, in 2013. The band currently consists of vocalists Marcus Cisneros and Tyler Watt, lead guitarist Cameron Nunez, rhythm guitarist Louie Baltazar, drummer Jacob Koval, and bass guitarist Tim Feerick. The band originated in the Central Valley hardcore punk music scene. The band signed to Blue Swan Records and released a split with Adventurer in May 2016 and their debut studio album, Everything Is Going Grey, in October 2017.
