Lovework, is the critically acclaimed debut Hiphop album by Gabriel Teodros, released February 27, 2007 on MassLine Media.
Aesthetically and politically, Lovework descends from a mid-'90s school of conscious Northwest hip hop, characterized by groups such as Black Anger and Silent Lambs Project. It was a time where the Seattle sound became jazzier—more melodic, intricate, and atmospheric. It turned away from the gangsta themes and beats that dominated the period and instead focused on progressive politics, utopian aspirations, and an organic connection with black Africa.
Lovework was produced by Amos Miller with additional beat contributions from Sabzi (of Blue Scholars), Moka Only, Kitone, and Specs One – its sound was primarily influenced by Seattle veteran Vitamin D (who also mixed the record) and the late J Dilla. [10]
On Lovework, Gabriel Teodros ponders issues of racism, sexism, and colonialism, as well as lighter topics like romance and the art of rhyme. [11]
The opening song Sacred Texts creatively namedrops groups of influence in Teodros' life, including A Tribe Called Quest, Freestyle Fellowship, Common, Boogie Down Productions, Public Enemy, Roy Ayers and Bob Marley. [12]
In the song East Africa, Teodros first speaks about his family and how he grew up, and then goes on to talk about the 2005 Ethiopian police massacres. [13]
The album title, Lovework was inspired by bell hooks and her book All About Love , where Hooks insists that to truly know love, one must agree that love is a verb. She goes further to say to truly know love, one must work to undo every system of domination that stops people from truly loving. The title was also inspired by a quote from Khalil Gibran's The Prophet where Gibran says "Work is love made visible". [14]
There were 3 official music videos made for the Lovework album. The first 2 were both directed by Zia Mohajerjasbi; No Label (Esma Remix) and Don't Cry For Us featuring Khingz & Toni Hill. The third video was for Third World Wide and was directed by Salvatore Fullmore.
The album held the #1 spot on the CMJ Hip Hop charts for 2 weeks and came in at #19 for the year 2007. [15]

The Day After is the fifth studio album by American rapper Twista, released on October 4, 2005 via Atlantic Records. There is a version chopped and screwed by Paul Wall. The album was certified Gold by the RIAA and received to generally positive reviews. This album is also the first album by Twista where there is no production by longtime collaborator, The Legendary Traxster.
End of Love is the fifth full-length album by indie rock band Clem Snide. The album includes longtime live staple "Weird", as well as "Made for TV Movie", a song about Lucille Ball which includes a duet between lead singer Eef Barzelay and the daughter of one of the album's guest musicians.
On Top of Our Game is the second studio album by Atlanta-based rap group Dem Franchize Boyz, released on February 7, 2006.
IIcons is the sixth studio album by American hip hop group Naughty by Nature. It was released on May 7, 2002 on TVT Records. Production was handled by Naughty by Nature, Da Beatminerz, DJ Twinz and Lil' Jon. It features guest appearances from Rottin Razkals, 3LW, Carl Thomas, Chyna Whyte, Freddie Foxxx, Icarus, Lil' Jon, Method Man, Pink, Queen Latifah, Redman and Road Dawgs. The album was a success, peaking at No. 15 on the Billboard 200 and No. 5 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, and spawned the single, "Feels Good " which made it to No. 53 on the Billboard Hot 100.
A Long Hot Summer is the third solo and fifth overall studio album by American rapper Masta Ace. It was released on August 3, 2004 via M3 Macmil Music. Production was handled by Dams & Sla, Dug Infinite, Xplicit, 9th Wonder, DJ Serious, DJ Spinna, DR Period, Marco Polo, Khrysis, Koolade, and Ace himself. It features guest appearances from eMC, Leschea, Apocalypse, Big Noyd, Ed O.G., Jean Grae, Mr. Lee G, The Beatnuts and Rahzel.
Thug Holiday is the fifth studio album by American rapper Trick Daddy. It was released on August 6, 2002 through Slip-N-Slide/Atlantic Records. Production was handled by Gorilla Tek, Supa a.k.a. Infa Red, Red Spyda, Cool & Dre, David Banner, Deep Fried Camp, Jazze Pha, Jim Jonsin, Lil' Jon, Majid "Chi" Hasan, Minnesota, Rob "Reef" Tewlow, Sean "Face" Foote, Signature, and DJ Nabs, with Ted Lucas serving as executive producer. It features guest appearances from Tre+6, Rick Ross, Supa a.k.a. Infa Red, Duece Poppito, Big Boi, Big LEXX, Birdman, CeeLo Green, Denny, LaTocha Scott, Milk, Mystic, Scarface, and Betty Wright's Children's Choir. The album debuted at number 6 on the Billboard 200 with 129,500 copies sold in the first week released. A month later the album was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America for an excess of 500,000 copies.
Supply & Demand is the debut studio album by American Southern hip hop duo Playaz Circle from Atlanta. It was released on October 30, 2007 via Disturbing tha Peace and Def Jam South Recordings. Recording sessions took place at Upstairs Studio, The Bank, Hot Beats Recording Studios, The Ludaplex, PatchWerk Recording Studios and Doppler Studios in Atlanta, at Area 51 in Detroit, at Legacy Recording Studios in New York, at Hit Factory Criteria, Circle House Studios and H&N Studio in Miami. Production was handled by B-Crucial, Bigg D, Buckwild, Drumma Boy, Jean "J Rock" Borges, Knoxville, M16, Midnight Black, Mr. Porter, Streetrunner, Tony Dinero and Wonder Arillo, with Chaka Zulu, Jeff Dixon and Ludacris serving as executive producers. It features guest appearances from Ludacris, Lil Wayne, Phonte and Shawnna.
Abyssinian Creole is a hip hop duo composed of Khingz and Gabriel Teodros.
Hip Hop Lives is the collaborative studio album by American rapper KRS-One and record producer Marley Marl. It was released on May 22, 2007 via Koch Records. Recording sessions took place at House Of Hits in New York and at Westlake Recording Studios in Los Angeles. Production was handled by Marley Marl himself, except for one track produced with 88 Fingers. It features guest appearances from Blaq Poet, Busy Bee Starski and Magic Juan. The album's title is a response to Nas's 2006 album Hip Hop Is Dead.
Gabriel Teodros, is a hip hop artist and a member of the groups Abyssinian Creole and CopperWire. He was raised on Beacon Hill, Seattle, Washington. Teodros' music often features socially conscious themes, and he was a catalyst in the surge of dynamic underground rap acts from the Pacific Northwest during the first decade of the 2000s.
"U Make Me Wanna" is a hip hop and R&B-flavored song by New York rapper Jadakiss, released as the third and final single from his second studio album, Kiss of Death. The song features vocals by fellow New York singer and songwriter Mariah Carey, and was produced by Scott Storch. The song features an interesting Middle Eastern/Indian-inspired beat, with synthesized flutes, strings and percussion. The lyrics detail Jadakiss’ daily work of selling substances, and how he perseveres each day through knowing that he has a beautiful, loving woman waiting on him at home each night. Carey’s vocal range in the song reaches up to her sixth octave.
"Ballin'" is a song by American rapper Young Jeezy from the deluxe edition of his fourth studio album, Thug Motivation 103: Hustlerz Ambition. It features rapper Lil Wayne and peaked at number 57 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 15 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.
Oxymoron is the third studio album by American rapper Schoolboy Q. It was released on February 25, 2014, through Top Dawg Entertainment and distributed by Interscope Records. Oxymoron was his first album released under a major record label to music retailers, whereas his previous albums were released independently to digital retailers only.
Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll is an American musical comedy television series created by and starring Denis Leary. The series aired on FX for a total of 20 episodes from July 16, 2015, to September 1, 2016. In September 2015, the network renewed the show for a second season, which premiered on June 30, 2016. On September 9, 2016, following the end of the second season, FX canceled the show.
Crossroads Guitar Festival 2007 is the Rhino Entertainment and Warner Brothers release to the 2007 Eric Clapton Crossroads Guitar Festival. The concert was recorded on July 28, 2007 at the Toyota Park in Bridgeview, Illinois. The recordings were released on both Compact Disc and DVD on November 28, 2007 in the United States. The CD and DVD releases sold more than two million copies worldwide and reached various international charts.
The Return of East Atlanta Santa is the tenth studio album by American rapper Gucci Mane. It was released on December 16, 2016, by GUWOP Enterprises, RBC Records and Atlantic Records. The record serves as Gucci Mane's third commercial release of the year, following his release from prison, after Everybody Looking (2016) and Woptober (2016). The album features guest appearances from rappers Drake and Travis Scott, alongside singer Bryson Tiller, while the production was handled by Metro Boomin, Southside, Bangladesh, Zaytoven, Mike Will Made It and Murda Beatz, among others.
"Down Like That" is a song by British YouTuber and recording artist KSI featuring American rappers Rick Ross and Lil Baby and British singer-songwriter S-X. Produced by the latter, it was released for digital download and streaming by RBC Records and BMG on 8 November 2019 as the lead single from KSI's debut studio album, Dissimulation (2020). "Down Like That" stood as KSI's first release through the record label after signing with them in the October of that year.
Mutiat Yewande Isola, professionally known as Wande, is a Nigerian American Christian hip hop artist, actress and former journalist and A&R administrator from Austin, Texas, United States. She signed to the Christian hip hop label Reach Records in 2019, where she had worked as an A&R administrator. Prior to that, as an independent artist, from 2013 through 2018 she released multiple singles and made numerous featured appearances on various songs, as well as worked as a music journalist. She is the first woman signed to Reach. Her debut extended play (EP), Exit, was released on April 24, 2020, followed by a mini-EP The Decision on December 4, 2020.
