Emma Lovisa Karlsson (born 24 May 1995) is a Swedish sailor. [1] She represented Sweden at the 2020 Summer Olympics, finishing 14th in women's 470 event, and won the 2022 European Championships in the mixed 470 event.

Sailing career

2020 Olympics with Bergström

Lovisa Karlsson, together with Olivia Bergström, qualified to represent Sweden in the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics, competing in the women's 470 event and ranking 14th. [3] [4] [2]

Mixed 470 with Dahlberg (since 2022)

After the 2020 Summer Olympics and the end of the women's 470 event in the Olympics, Karlsson teamed up with Anton Dahlberg, silver medalist in the men's event in the same Olympics, to campaign for the 2024 Summer Olympics. [5] They made their first regatta together in the 2022 Semaine Olympique Française in Hyères, which they won. [6]

In September 2022, Dahlberg and Karlsson won the 470 European Championships in Çeşme, Turkey. [7] At the 2022 470 World Championship in Sdot Yam a month later, they finished 13th and therefore not qualified for the medal race. [8]

Dahlberg and Karlsson successfully defended their 470 European Championships title in May 2023 in Sanremo, one point ahead of German crew Anna Markfort and Simon Diesch. [9]

In 2011, following World Championship and World Cup success, he and Malcolm Page were shortlisted by the International Sailing Federation for the ISAF World Sailor of the Year Awards. Belcher was selected as the Australian flag bearer for the closing ceremony of the 2020 Summer Olympics after winning a second gold medal and third successive medal in the 470 class.

Hannah Louise Mills, is a British competitive sailor and two-time world champion in the Women's 470 class, having won in 2012 and 2019. Mills won a silver medal for Team GB with her crew Saskia Clark in the 2012 Olympics, she followed this up with a gold in the same event at both the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro and, partnered by Eilidh McIntyre, the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. Mills is currently the on-board Strategist for the Emirates Great Britain SailGP Team, competing at events around the world. In 2022, Mills and Sir Ben Ainslie launched Athena Pathway, a programme to help fast-track development for female and youth sailors. Athena Pathway has a team competing in the first ever Women’s America’s Cup, helmed by Mills, and has also put together the British Youth Team that will battle to retain the Youth America’s Cup after winning it at the last event in Bermuda in 2017.

Anton Carl Diderik Dahlberg is a Swedish sailor, who specializes in the 470 class, a two-person dinghy. He has represented Sweden, along with his partner Sebastian Östling, in two editions of the Olympic Games, and with Fredrik Bergström in 2016 and 2020, winning an Olympic silver in 2020. He has been representing the Royal Swedish Yacht Club throughout most of his career.

John Sebastian Östling is a Swedish sailor, who specializes in the 470 class, a two-person dinghy. He represented Sweden, along with his partner Anton Dahlberg, in two editions of the Olympic Games, and has also been training representing Royal Swedish Yacht Club throughout most of his sporting career under his personal coach and mentor Per Frykholm.

Suneson trained throughout most of his sporting career for the Royal Swedish Yacht Club in Saltsjöbaden under his personal coach and brother Wilhelm Suneson.

Jacob Saunders is a Canadian sailor. Along with his partner Graeme Saunders, he competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in the 470 event, finishing in 22nd place. He represented Canada at the 2020 Summer Olympics together with Oliver Bone of the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron, finishing in 17th place in the men's 470 event. He started his early training and career with the Chester Yacht Club, competing as Jacob Chaplin-Saunders.

Carl Fredrik Bergström is a Swedish competitive sailor. He competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in the men's 470, where he, with partner Anton Dahlberg, finished in 6th place. At the 2020 Summer Olympics, he and Dahlberg won a silver medal in the men's 470.

Sweden competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Originally scheduled to take place from 24 July to 9 August 2020, the Games were postponed to 23 July to 8 August 2021, because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Swedish athletes have competed at every Summer Olympic Games, with the exception of the 1904 Summer Olympics in St. Louis.

William Henry Mark Paterson was a New Zealand sailor. He finished fifth in the 470 event at the 1976 Summer Olympics, and won the Cherub World Championship in 1978.

Eilidh Jane McIntyre is a British former sailor, who won the gold medal alongside Hannah Mills in the 470 event at the 2020 Summer Olympics. She won the 2019 470 World Championships, and came second at the 2017 470 World Championships. She finished third at the 2015 470 European Championships, and second at the 2019 and 2021 events, as well as having won multiple Sailing World Cup medals. In 2022, McIntyre was awarded an MBE for services to yachting.

Chester Yacht Club (CYC) is a private yacht club located in Chester, Nova Scotia, Canada, established in 1902. The Chester Yacht Club is home to Canada's largest keelboat regatta, Chester Race Week, which occurs every August. Notable members of the Chester Yacht Club include Olympians Jacob Saunders and Graeme Saunders, who started sailing with the club's junior sailing school in 2002, and philanthropist Sir Christopher Ondaatje, who owns a nearby island. The club is also active in one-design racing, highlighted by the Bluenose one-design sloop and International One Design (IOD) fleet.
