Judas Iscariot was a disciple and one of the original Twelve Apostles of Jesus Christ. According to all four canonical gospels, Judas betrayed Jesus to the Sanhedrin in the Garden of Gethsemane by kissing him and addressing him as "rabbi" to reveal his identity to the crowd who had come to arrest him. Loyalty and Betrayal is the sixth studio album by American rapper E-40, released October 10, 2000 on Jive and Sick Wid It Records. Its 170 chapters were collected into 24 tankōbon volumes by Square Enix. The story of Übel Blatt takes place in a medieval, fantasy-like landscape. It follows the steps of Koinzell, who appears to be nothing more than a mere half-human child most distinguishable for the scar over his left eye. He is on a quest of revenge against those who betrayed and killed him and now call themselves the seven heroes of the land.

The song was later sent to urban and rhythmic radio June 20, 2017 as the second single from the album. The sixth track on the album, the song features Barbadian singer Rihanna on vocals and was written by Lamar, DJ Dahi, Sounwave, Rihanna, and Terrace Martin. The song won the Grammy Award for Best Rap/Sung Performance.
