Loyola College Guatemala is a private Catholic pre-school, primary and secondary school, located in Guatemala City, Guatemala. The Jesuit-run school traces its origins to 1958 at the elementary school at La Merced Catholic church.[ citation needed ]

History

Loyola College remains on 12th Avenue near 5th Street. In 1965 the preprimary opened and in 1968 the high school. In 1971 the primary added an afternoon session and the pre-primary moved to 12th Avenue 3-69 Zone 1. In 1972 an afternoon session opened for pre-primary. By the 1980s there were over 2,000 students at all three levels.[ citation needed ]

The College has received three government awards: Order José Rolz Bennet the Municipality of Guatemala and the Order of Quetzal granted by the Government of Guatemala both in 2007, and in 2008 the Pedagogical Order Juan Jose Arevalo granted by the Ministry of Education.[ citation needed ]

Loyola College of Culion

Loyola College of Culion is a private, Catholic secondary and higher education institution run by a Catholic religious order, the Philippine Province of the Society of Jesus, in Barangay Libis, Culion, Palawan province, Philippines. The school was opened by the Jesuits in 1936 for the purpose of having a school for the children of leper patients. So since its establishment, the School was accepting only children of leper patients. Then in the mid-1950s, with the enactment of the Liberalization Law for Lepers, the doors of the school were opened to all. With this development, the School sought to identify what it is now for and what it hopes to achieve. In October 2015, the administrators, faculty and staff of the School convened to re-think and eventually formulate its new vision and mission. Beginning School Year 2016-2017, the Loyola College of Culion had a new vision and mission.

Ignatius of Loyola, venerated as Saint Ignatius of Loyola, was a Spanish Basque Catholic priest and theologian, who together with Peter Faber and Francis Xavier founded the religious order called the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) and became its first Superior General at Paris in 1541. The Jesuit order is dedicated to teaching and missionary work. Its members are bound by a special (fourth) vow of obedience to the sovereign pontiff to be ready to fulfill special papal missions. The society played an important role during the Counter-Reformation.

The Church of St. Ignatius of Loyola is a Roman Catholic parish church located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, New York City, administered by the Society of Jesus (Jesuits). The parish is under the authority of the Archdiocese of New York, and was established in 1851 as St. Lawrence O'Toole's Church. In 1898, permission to change the patron saint of the parish from St. Lawrence O'Toole to St. Ignatius of Loyola was granted by Rome. The address is 980 Park Avenue, New York City, New York 10028. The church on the southwest corner of Park Avenue and 84th Street is part of a Jesuit complex on the block that includes Wallace Hall, the parish hall beneath the church, the rectory at the midblock location on Park Avenue, the grade school of St. Ignatius's School on the north midblock location of 84th Street behind the church and the high school of Loyola School at the northwest corner of Park Avenue and 83rd Street. In addition, another Jesuit high school, Regis High School, occupies the midblock location on the north side of 84th Street. The church was added to the National Register of Historic Places on July 24, 1980.
