Luca Sito (born 12 May 2003) is an Italian sprinter. [1] He won silver medals as part of the Italian mixed 4x400m relay team and in the men's 4x400m relay at the 2024 European Athletics Championships in Rome.
He was born and raised in Milan, although he has family from Naples. He was a keen football player before focusing on athletics. [2]
He was a gold medalist in the 4x400m at the 2023 European Athletics U23 Championships in Espoo. [3]
In April 2024, he lowered his personal best for the 400 metres to 45.65 in Firenze. [4] He ran as part of the Italian 4x400m relay team at the World Relays Championships in Nassau, Bahamas in May 2024. [5] That month, he ran a 45.35 personal best for the 400 metres in Montreuil. [6]
Competing at the 2024 European Athletics Championships in Rome, he was a silver medalist in the Mixed 4x400m relay. [7] He also reached the final of the Men's 400 metres with a time of 44.75 seconds. In the final he placed fifth overall. [8] [9]
He ran a personal best 20.72 seconds for the 200 metres in finishing third at the 2024 Italian Athletics Championships. [10] He competed at the 2024 Summer Olympics over 400 metres in August 2024, reaching the semi-final. [11]
The 4 × 400 metres relay or long relay is an athletics track event in which teams consist of four runners who each complete 400 metres or one lap, totaling 1600 meters. It is traditionally the final event of a track meet. The first leg and the first bend of the second leg are run in lanes. Start lines are thus staggered over a greater distance than in an individual 400 metres race; the runners then typically move to the inside of the track. The slightly longer 4 × 440 yards relay, on an Imperial distance, was a formerly run British Commonwealth and American event, until metrication was completed in the 1970s.

Hudson-Smith also holds the European and British 4x400m records (2:55.83) along with the GB Team who ran in the final of the men's 4x400m event in the Paris 2024 Olympics.
