Along with the women's double trap, this was the last Olympic competition in the event, before being removed from the program shortly after the Games.
Venezuela competed at the 1956 Summer Olympics held in Melbourne, Australia, and in the equestrian events held in Stockholm, Sweden. Twenty-two competitors, all men, were selected by the Venezuelan Olympic Committee to take part in sixteen events across five sports. The delegation featured no female competitors, for the second time, and won no medals. While most of the Venezuelan athletes did not advance past the qualifying rounds of their sports, there were some good placings in the shooting, with Germán Briceño and Carlos Monteverde finishing in the top 10 of their events.

He also reached the final of the men's 50 m pistol event, but finished only in fifth place by two tenths of a point behind Goncharov, for a total score of 662.0.

Rashid Yunusmetov is a Kazakhstani sport shooter. Yunusmetov had won a total of five medals at the ISSF World Cup circuit, including gold for the 50 m free pistol.

Jerabek had won two medals, and eventually set a world record of 3,511 points for the Czech rifle shooting team at the 2002 ISSF World Championships in Lahti, Finland. He is a two-time Olympian, and also, a member of the shooting team for ŠKP Rapid Plzeň, under his coach Petr Kurka.
Giuseppe di Salvatore is a Canadian sport shooter. He is a bronze medalist in men's trap shooting at the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Lee Wung Yew, is a Singaporean sport shooter. He is a three-time Olympian, a six-time Asian Games competitor, and a thirteen-time Southeast Asian Games medalist (1985–2009). Because of his long-term success and full commitment to the sport, Lee was named Singapore's Sportsman of the Year in 1990 and in 1998. He was also conferred the Public Service Medal and Public Service Star for his contribution to sports. He is currently teaching at Assumption English School as a Physical Education teacher.
Li Jun is a Chinese sport shooter. He won a gold medal in the men's double trap at the 2011 ISSF World Shotgun Championships, with a total score of 194 targets, earning him a spot on the Chinese team for the Olympics.
The men's ISSF Olympic trap event at the 2020 Summer Olympics took place on 28 and 29 July 2021 at the Asaka Shooting Range. Approximately 30 sport shooters from 20 nations are expected to compete in the trap, with the precise number depending on how many shooters compete in multiple events.
