Fonua was selected as the flag bearer for the opening ceremony while Lui held it at the closing ceremony. Lui and Fonua failed to progress farther than the preliminary round of their respective events while Po'uhila finished 29th in the heat stage of the women's shot put contest.
Washington Augusto Poyet Carreras(12 January 1939 – 16 June 2007) was a Uruguayan basketball player who competed in the 1960 Summer Olympics and in the 1964 Summer Olympics. He was the father of footballer Gus Poyet, and the grandfather of Diego Poyet.

She was drafted by the Atlanta Dream with the 15th overall in the 2021 WNBA Draft, but her draft rights were later traded to the New York Liberty. Carrera is the highest Spanish player ever picked in the WNBA draft.
