Early life
Felix-Fualalo was born on February 2, 2002, in Brisbane, Australia. [2] [3] He was named after the Star Wars character Luke Skywalker. [4] One of three sons, his father was a rugby player for the Tongan national team, while his mother played netball at the national level. [1] His cousin, Colm Woulfe, is a strongman. [1]
At age five, Felix-Fualalo began playing rugby, despite being below the age limit; an ESPN article stated that, "He was just too big to tell no. He played soccer too. He was so much larger than his teammates that he played goalie, if for no other reason than he filled up the frame of the goal." [1] When he was of high school age, he decided to change sports. [4] After initially trying out basketball, a coach suggested he start playing American football, which Felix-Fualalo had only seen in movies, mainly in The Blind Side . [1] [4]
In 2017, Felix-Fualalo moved to Los Angeles, California, U.S., where he attended Cathedral High School for a year. [4] There, he played in football games for the first time as an offensive lineman. [5] After a season there, he transferred to Mater Dei High School in 2018. [4] Coming out of high school, Felix-Fualalo was ranked a three-star recruit, and he signed to play college football for the Utah Utes. [1]
College career
As a true freshman at Utah in 2019, Felix-Fualalo redshirted while appearing in one game. [1] He then was used as a reserve and on special teams during the 2020 and 2021 seasons. [1] In total, he played in 11 games at Utah. [4] Felix-Fualalo entered the NCAA transfer portal after the season and transferred to the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors in 2022. [4] He played in 13 games as a backup and special teams player for a 3–10 Hawaii team in 2022. [1] [5] Felix-Fualalo earned a starting role in the 2023 season, earning first-team All-Mountain West Conference (MW) honors from Pro Football Focus (PFF) after starting 11 of 13 games while allowing only one sack. [6] In his last year, 2024, he appeared in eight games and started four at right tackle. [5]
In college, Felix-Fualalo played while standing at 6 feet 7 inches (2.01 m) and 310 pounds (140 kg). [1] At Hawaii, Felix-Fualalo studied Japanese samurais, particularly Miyamoto Musashi, as part of his postgraduate education.
