Luke Ferrara (born 7 June 1993) is a British ice hockey player who currently plays for UK NIHL side Peterborough Phantoms. A member of the British national team, Ferrara previously played with the Cardiff Devils, Sheffield Steelers, Coventry Blaze and Nottingham Panthers.

Personal life

Ferrara's older brothers Robert and James are both former hockey players. They last played for NIHL side Peterborough Phantoms before retiring at the end of the 2019–20 season. [4] [5] [6]

Career

Ferrara began his career with the Peterborough Phantoms, before playing one Elite League game with Cardiff Devils during the 2012–13 season. He joined Sheffield Steelers ahead of the 2014–15 season, moving to Coventry in 2017.

Ahead of the 2020-21 Elite League season, Ferrara originally agreed a new two-year deal to remain in Coventry. However, following the suspension of the 2020-21 Elite League campaign, he was allowed to seek opportunities elsewhere. [7] [8]

The forward subsequently agreed an initial one-month contract in October 2020 with French Ligue Magnus side Boxers de Bordeaux. [9] However he left upon the expiration of that deal in November. [10]

On 29 November 2020 Ferrara moved to Polska Hokej Liga side Cracovia Krakow on a deal until the end of the season. [11] [12]

Ferrara returned to Coventry to take part in the 2021 'Elite Series'. [13] He later returned to Coventry for the 2021-22 Elite League season.

In June 2022, Ferrara left Coventry after the best part of five years with the team, switching to fellow Elite League side Nottingham Panthers for the 2022-23 season. [14] [15]

In June 2023, Ferrara rejoined hometown club Peterborough Phantoms. [16]

Paul Thompson is a British ice hockey coach and general manager. He was head coach of the Great Britain men's national ice hockey team from 2006 to 2011. His teams have won three Challenge Cups, two British Knockout Cups, and he is the first coach to win five Elite League titles. In the 2004–2005 season, Thompson completed the British Hockey Grand Slam; winning the Challenge Cup, the EIHL title, and the EIHL playoff championship. He served as the general manager and head coach of the Sheffield Steelers from 2015 to 2018, and previously coached 19 seasons with the Coventry Blaze organisation. The Challenge Cup, hosted annually by the Elite Ice Hockey League, is a cup competition for ice hockey clubs in the United Kingdom. It is one of three competitions run each season by the Elite League, the others being the league championship and the playoff championship, the latter of which follows directly from the former, and also crowns the national champion. Prior to the formation of the Elite League in 2003, the Challenge Cup was organised by the Ice Hockey Superleague.
