Luke Thurgate is an Australian painter and mural artist.

Early life and education

Luke Thurgate graduated with Bachelor of Fine Arts from University of Newcastle, Australia in 2007, and went on to do a Masters of Fine Arts at the National Art School, where he also teaches drawing. [1]

Career

Thurgate's extensive exhibition history including exhibitions at Burra Regional Art Gallery, Backwoods Gallery, National Art School, and Adelaide Central Gallery. [2]

His works are often featured in LGBTI+ festivals and events such as Sydney Mardi Gras, [3] Sydney WorldPride, [4] and Auckland Pride Festival. [5]

Recognition

In 2009, Thurgate was a finalist in the Dobell Drawing Prize. In 2020, he was a finalist in the Tom Bass Figurative Sculpture Prize and the Jacaranda Acquisitive Drawing Award. [6]

Thurgate's finalist 2019 Dobell Drawing Prize entry was featured in The Guardian . [7] His finalist 2023 Dobell Drawing Prize was a performance piece drawn on the opening night, a big mural that is semi-permanent, where it was eventually covered with wall paint, and no traces of the drawing would remain. [8] This is common with Thurgate's work, where it is drawn on the walls with charcoal and displayed for a limited time only. [9]

Euan Macleod is a New Zealand-born artist. Macleod was born in Christchurch, New Zealand and moved to Sydney, Australia in 1981, where he lives and works. He received a Certificate in Graphic Design from Christchurch Technical College in 1975 and a Diploma in Fine Arts (Painting) from the University of Canterbury in 1979. As well as pursuing his art he also teaches painting at the National Art School in Sydney.

Godwin Bradbeer is a New Zealand-born artist now living and working in Melbourne, Australia. Bradbeer is known for large-scale figurative drawing and has been exhibited internationally since the 1970s. He has taught at the University of Melbourne, the Victorian College of the Arts, Monash University, and other art schools in Australia and Asia. From 2005 to 2010, he was head of drawing of the School of Art at RMIT University in Melbourne.

Elisabeth Cummings is an Australian artist known for her large abstract paintings and printmaking. She has won numerous awards including Fleurieu Art Prize, The Portia Geach Portrait Prize, The Mosman Art Prize, and The Tattersalls Art Prize. Her work is owned in permanent collections across Australia including Artbank, The Queensland Art Gallery, The Gold Coast City Art Gallery and the Art Gallery of New South Wales. She is notable for receiving recognition later in her career, considered by the Australian Art Collector as one of the 50 most collectible Australian Artists.

Leach's work has been exhibited in several museum shows including "Optimism" at the Queensland Art Gallery and "Neo Goth" at the University of Queensland Art Museum in 2008, in 2009 "the Shilo Project" at the Ian Potter Museum of Art and "Horror Come Darkness" at the Macquarie University Art Gallery and "Still" at Hawkesbury Regional Gallery in 2010. His work is held in public collections of regional galleries of Geelong, Gold Coast, Coffs Harbour, Newcastle and Gippsland and the collections of La Trobe University and the University of Queensland.

Lucas Grogan is an Australian artist born in Cooma, New South Wales. Grogan is a painter and textile artist currently based in Melbourne, Australia. Grogan exhibited extensively overseas and Australia since 2005.
