Lumir Abdixhiku (born 22 April 1983) is a Kosovar Albanian politician serving as President of Democratic League of Kosovo since 14 March 2021. [1] He previously served as Minister of Infrastructure and Environment in the 2019. [2] He was also a Chairman of the Budget and Finance Committee in the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo from 2017 to 2019. [3]
Abdixhiku was born on 22 April 1983,in Prishtina,Yugoslavia,Socialist Republic of Serbia Socialist Autonomous Province of Kosovo. Lumir Abdixhiku finished elementary school from “Gjergj Fishta”and high school from “Xhevdet Doda”. After graduating from high school,he started his BA studies in the Faculty of Law and Economics at the University of Prishtina,graduating in 2004. Abdixhiku continued his postgraduate studies in Great Britain,receiving a MSc in Economics for Business Analysis in 2006 and a PhD in 2013 from Staffordshire University. He received his PhD after four years of research in the field of ‘Determinants of Business Tax Evasion in Transition Economies’. [4]
Lumir Abdixhiku is married and he has two daughters. Lumir Abdixhiku has served as executive director of Riinvest Institute,one of oldest and most prestigious research institutes and think-tanks in Kosovo. He held this position from 2010 to 2017,when he resigned following his entry to politics. As head of this institute,Mr. Abdixhiku oversaw the implementation of various projects in Kosovo. Mr. Abdixhiku has been a lecturer at Riinvest College since 2007 where he has taught a range of courses in the field of economics.
Lumir Abdixhiku has been a weekly columnist in Koha Ditore from 2011 to 2017. Writing under the banner “Letters from limbo”,he has covered a broad range of issues that preoccupied Kosovan society in the aftermath of the declaration of independence,mainly criticizing what he considered rampant corruption,nepotism,gerrymandering,deep state,etc. [5]
For three consecutive elections,Lumir Abdixhiku was one of the most voted candidates for the Assembly of Kosovo. In 2020 he was nominated as Minister of Infrastructure and Transport. He also was a member of the Presidency of LDK. [6]
Following LDK's defeat in general elections,party leader Isa Mustafa resigned and opened the way for new leadership. In the party elections held on 14 March 2021,Lumir Abdixhiku secured 191 votes out of 328 in total,becoming a new party leader. As a leader of LDK,Lumir Abdixhiku has undertaken several reforms and has embraced a conciliatory tone that would help his party reach favorable results in the municipal elections held in 2021. [7]
In the latest municipal elections,held in October and November (runoff),LDK won in Peja and Lipjan in the first round,while flipping the capital city Pristina in the runoff and holding Kosovo Polje,Vitia,Istog,Junik and Dragash. In the first round,the popular vote of LDK was 170.177,with 205 assembly members. LDK was ranked as the first party based on general vote. [8]

The Bear Sanctuary Prishtina is a sanctuary for rescued brown bears in Kosovo at around 22 km (14 mi) close to the city of Prishtina. The sanctuary is located near the Badoc Lake.
Local elections were held in Kosovo on 3 November 2013,with a second round on 1 December. These were the first elections which the Serbs of Northern Kosovo participated in since the Republic of Kosovo declared independence in 2008;polls were monitored by the OSCE. The Maja e Arnenit Strict Nature Reserve is a strict nature reserve in the District of Prizren of Southeastern Kosovo. Maja e Arnenit has an area of 30 hectares.
The Oshlak Strict Nature Reserve is a strict nature reserve in the District of Prizren and Ferizaj of Southeastern Kosovo. The reserve encompasses 20 hectares of mountainous and hilly terrain,small lakes and wide forests with numerous of the related flora and fauna. It is entirely located within the Sharr Mountains National Park,one of the two national parks of Kosovo.
The parliament of Kosovo held indirect elections for president of Kosovo on 3 and 4 April 2021. The elections successfully concluded after three rounds,with Vjosa Osmani winning 71 votes out of a total possible 120. Three political parties boycotted the vote. Nasuf Bejta,also a member of Guxo,the political party Osmani founded,was the only other candidate who received a vote during any of the other rounds.
Blendi Xhemajl Baftiu is a Kosovan professional footballer who plays as an attacking midfielder for Kosovan club KF Llapi. He has been capped for the Kosovo national team.
Parliamentary elections were held in Kosovo on 14 February 2021. The results were a landslide victory for Vetëvendosje led by Albin Kurti and its coalition partner,Vjosa Osmani,former speaker of the parliament of Kosovo. The alliance won more than 50% of the total votes,the highest share since the first elections held in 2001,while their nearest rivals,the Democratic Party,finished in second place,trailing by more than 33%.

Xhafer Tahiri is a politician in Kosovo. He served in the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo from 2013 to 2014 and was the mayor of Vushtrri from 2017 to 2021. Tahiri is a member of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK).

Shaqir Totaj is a Kosovo-Albanian conservative politician currently serving as Mayor of Prizren. Totaj was elected mayor in 2021 and belongs to the center-right PDK party.
Municipal elections to elect the mayor and Municipal Assembly were held in Pristina on 17 October 2021,with a second round of the mayoral election on 14 November. The elections came just nine months after parliamentary elections which saw Vetëvendosje win by a landslide. Përparim Rama of the Democratic League of Kosovo won the mayoral election,narrowly defeating Vetëvendosje's Arben Vitia,the Minister of Health. by around 1,600 votes.
