Lydia Nabawanuka (born in Masaka in 1991) better known as Lydia Jazmine is a Ugandan female recording artist. [1]

Background and education

She was born in Masaka in 1991. [1] She attended Victoria Nile School for her elementary school. She then transferred to Saint Mary's School Namaliga, in Kimenyedde sub-county, Mukono District. [1] [2] She completed high school at Cityland College Matugga, in Matugga, Wakiso District. [1] In February 2016, she graduated from Multitech Business School in Kampala, Uganda's capital and largest city, with a Bachelor of Business Administration and Management degree. [1] [3]

Career

Jazmine started singing in high school, after she joined the school choir. Later she joined the church choir at the Passover Harvest Centre and at Watoto Church. When she graduated from high school, she joined a band called Gertnum, where she sang background vocals. [1]

Later, the music group Radio and Weasel signed Jazmine to a contract as a back-up singer. She is the back-up vocalist on the songs "Ntunga" and "Breath Away". She later performed background vocal lyrics for Bebe Cool and Sheebah Karungi. [1] Her first single was a duet with Rabadaba called "You Know", released circa 2014. [1]

In 2017, Jazmine was selected to participate in "Coke Studio Africa 2017", to represent Uganda, for the second consecutive year. This time she was paired with Mozambican songstress Liloca, and assigned to South African music producer Sketchy Bongo. This annual event, sponsored by Coca-Cola, is a non-competitive music show that brings together diverse musicians on the Continent, to work collaboratively with experienced local and intentional musicians and music producers. Milege Afrojazz Band, commonly known as Milege, is a world music band from Uganda, made up of young talented musicians from Uganda whose enthusiasm is derived from the diverse cultural music traditions of the different tribes of Uganda into which they fuse contemporary elements to express the likeness of Uganda's people in a more current context. As of 2015 Milege's members are; guitarist Manana F. Birabi, vocalist Joanita Katushabe, lead vocalist Gloria Akugizibwe, bassist Paul Owembabazi and violinist Alison Nadunga as a seasoned member.

She also won the Artist of the Year award twice, in 2017, 2018, and 2019 at the HiPipo Music Awards.

The 2021 MTV Africa Music Awards ceremony was postponed. The event was set to be held in Kampala, Uganda. The award ceremony, was to be aired live on MTV Base, and MTV was to air the event globally, in 180 countries, for the first time, according to Paul Grein of Billboard. The show was to be hosted virtually by DJ Khaled in the City of Miami. The ceremony was set to feature performances from various African celebrities; Wizkid, Sheebah Karungi, Diamond Platnumz, Khaligraph Jones, Nasty C, Suspect 95, Soraia Ramos, and Calema, among others. The repeat show will also be aired on BET Africa, BET International, and MTV channels.

Rahmah Pinky is a Ugandan musician and once an artist from Team No Sleep (TNS). She was signed to replace Sheebah Karungi, who quit the record label.
