Rear Admiral Mohammad Sohail (TAS), NUP, PPM, psc, BN was a former two-star admiral in Bangladesh Navy. [1] [2] His last appointment was Chairman of Chattogram Port Authority. [3] Prior to join here he was Chairman of Payra Port Authority. [4] Before that, he was serving as the Director of Submarine at the Navy Headquarters. [5]

Sohail also served as Director of Naval Intelligence and commanded BNS Haji Mohshin while he was Commodore. He was served as a commander of Naval Training and Doctrine Command. [6]

Sohail was later sacked from service due to accusation of corruption, non judicial killing and abduction on 18 August 2024. [7]

Early life and education

Sohail joined Bangladesh Naval Academy on 1986 and on 1 January 1988, he was commissioned in the Executive branch. [8]

Career

Sohail received his commission in Bangladesh Navy on 1 January 1988. [9]

Sohail was faculty of Defence Services Command and Staff College, Mirpur. Then served as Colonel GS in the Counter Terrorism and Intelligence Bureau (CTIB) and the Internal Affairs Bureau (IAB) at Directorate General of Forces Intelligence. [9]

Sohail was also appointed in Home Ministry at Rapid Action Battalion. He served as the Legal and Media Wing Director of Rapid Action Battalion. [10]

Sohail got promoted to Rear Admiral from Commodore on 22 February 2022. Since then, he was deputed at Ministry of Shipping. [11] On 2 May 2023, he was appointed chairman of the Chittagong Port Authority where he replaced Rear Admiral M Shahjahan. [12] [13] He was serving as the chairman of Payra Port Authority and was replaced by Rear Admiral Golam Sadeq. [13]

On 19 August 2024, Sohail was dismissed from service. [9] Two days later, he was arrested on Corruption allegation. [14]

The Chittagong Export Processing Zone (CEPZ) (Bengali: চট্টগ্রাম রপ্তানি প্রক্রিয়াকরণ অঞ্চল), also known as Chattogram EPZ, is the first and one of the eight export processing zones in Bangladesh. Established in 1983, it is located in South Halishahar, Chattogram. BNS <i>Somudra Joy</i>

BNS Somudra Joy is one of the two largest ships of the Bangladesh Navy along with her sister ship BNS Somudra Avijan. Although originally a high endurance cutter the Bangladesh Navy reclassified the ship as a frigate. They acquired the ship from the United States under Excess Defense Articles. Currently she is being used as a training ship for naval cadets.

Mohammad Nizamuddin Ahmed was an admiral in the Bangladesh Navy and the former Chief of Naval Staff. He previously served as the Director of Coast Guard Operations and commander of Chittagong Naval Command (COMCHIT). He also served in Naval Headquarters as Director of Personnel Services and Secretary to the Chief of Naval Staff. Inter Service Public Relations Directorate (ISPR) announced Ahmed's nomination to succeed Admiral Farid Habib. Ahmed began serving as the 15th Chief of Naval Staff on 27 January 2016.

Rear Admiral Abdullah Al Mamun Chowdhury (N), BSP, ndc, psc, BN is a two-star admiral in Bangladesh Navy who is currently serving as Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Personnel). Previously, he has served as Chairman of Payra Port Authority twice. Before that he served as Commander, Chattogram Naval Area. Prior to that, he was Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Logistics). He also served as Director of Submarines, Naval Headquarters, Dhaka.

Rear Admiral Golam Sadeq is a two-star admiral in the Bangladesh Navy and incumbent commander of Khulna Naval Area (COMKHUL). Before that, he was chairman of the Payra Port Authority. Prior to that, he was senior directing staff - SDS (Navy) at the National Defence College. Prior to that, he was chairman of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA).
