MHz Legacy, formerly known as MHz, is an American hip hop group from Columbus, Ohio. [1] It consists of producer RJD2 and rappers Copywrite, Tage Future, and Jakki Da Motamouth. [2] Camu Tao was also a member until his death in 2008. [3] It was described by HipHopDX as "one of the city's most influential groups". [4]

History

In 1997, MHz was formed in Columbus, Ohio. [5] In 1998, the group released the debut single, "World Premier", which would be later praised by Complex as "one of the best and most underrated 12" cuts from Fondle Em Records' impeccable catalog". [6] Fact placed the single at number 95 on the "100 Best Indie Hip-Hop Records of All Time" list in 2015. [7]

In 2001, MHz released a compilation album entitled Table Scraps, which was described by AllMusic as "one of the quintessential of the Cowtown releases". [8]

In 2011, three years after the death of Camu Tao, MHz ended the hiatus and changed the name to MHz Legacy. [9] The first studio album, MHz Legacy , was released on Man Bites Dog Records in 2012. [10] It featured guest appearances from Danny Brown, Ill Bill, Slaine, Blu, and Slug. [11] Production was handled by RJD2 as well as Harry Fraud, Marco Polo, and J. Rawls. [12] Columbus Alive called it "a record that sounds distinctly like MHz, updated for 2012 without compromising the group's hardscrabble, battle-born identity". [13]

Theodore Arrington III, better known by his stage name Vast Aire, is an American rapper from New York City. He is one half of the New York hip hop duo Cannibal Ox, which consists of him and fellow rapper Vordul Mega. He is also a member of the rap group Atoms Family and Scienceninjateam. He was born in Mount Vernon, New York, then lived in Jamaica, Queens before moving to Harlem, and became acquainted with the underground rap scene, performing in many clubs while still a teenager. He was once a part of the underground hip hop group The Weathermen. He then went on to record with Al Babblez and the group scienceninjateam until kicked from the group.

Deadringer is the debut studio album by RJD2. It was released on Definitive Jux on July 23, 2002. It features vocal contributions from Blueprint, Jakki da Motamouth, and Copywrite. Some editions include a hidden song on the last track, titled "Here's What's Left." The album was reissued in 2009 with two additional tracks.

Jason Daniel Rawls, better known by his stage name J. Rawls, is an American hip hop musician, producer, disc jockey (DJ), educator, and speaker born in Columbus, Ohio. He is best known for his work with Masta Ace, Mos Def and Talib Kweli. Because of his work with Black Star, a hip hop group composed of Mos Def and Talib Kweli, and their sole debut studio album, Mos Def & Talib Kweli Are Black Star, Dr. Rawls was soon placed on the map among independent hip-hop producers and became an independent hip-hop main-stay. The album became a huge success and was part of a major force in the late 1990s underground hip-hop explosion.
