MLW Azteca is a professional wrestling supercard event produced by Major League Wrestling (MLW). Its concept is based on story elements from the defunct Lucha Libre promotion and television drama, Lucha Underground , and has been described as a spiritual successor to the latter. [1] [2]
Since October 2020, MLW had been incorporating story elements from Lucha Underground into its programming. Talent formerly associated with Lucha Underground were brought into MLW as part of the "Azteca Underground" stable. [1] [3] The stable would later become the central focus of the MLW Fusion: Alpha mini-series, which premiered on September 22, 2021. [4] [5] [6]
On November 8, 2021, MLW announced that it would be holding its second co-promoted event with The Crash, and the first Azteca-branded event, at the Auditorio Fausto Gutierrez Moreno in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico on December 3. [7] [8] The event was taped for the MLW Azteca mini-series, which aired from January 6, to February 3, 2022 on MLW's YouTube channel. [9] [10]
The second Azteca event, entitled MLW Azteca Underground, was held on April 1, 2022 at Gilley's Dallas in Dallas, Texas. [11] It served as a television taping for MLW Fusion , with several matches airing as part of its special Rise of the Renegades episode.
On December 12, 2023, MLW announced that it would be holding a third event, MLW Azteca Lucha, on May 11, 2024, at the Cicero Stadium in Cicero, Illinois. [12] [13] The event will stream live on Triller TV, as part of an overall deal with MLW to air live monthly events for TrillerTV+ subscribers. [14] Additional matches were taped for Fury Road, which aired as a television special on Bein Sports USA and on MLW's YouTube channel as part of the promotion's expanded event schedule. [15]

Major League Wrestling (MLW) is an American professional wrestling promotion based in New Rochelle, New York. The promotion was founded in 2002 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by former WWE writer Court Bauer. The promotion markets its product as "Hybrid Wrestling", with its roster featuring a mix of different wrestling styles.
Lucha Underground was an American professional wrestling promotion founded in 2014 by United Artists Media Group. Partly owned by Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide (AAA), Lucha Underground also refers to its weekly television program, which featured characters portrayed by wrestlers from AAA and the American and Mexican independent circuits. The series originally aired in English on El Rey Network and in Spanish on UniMás.
Pentagón Jr. is a Mexican luchador enmascarado signed to All Elite Wrestling (AEW) under the ring name Penta El Zero Miedo. He is a former AEW World Trios Champion with his Death Triangle stablemates Pac and his real-life younger brother, Rey Fénix. Penta and Fénix also team as the Lucha Brothers and are former one-time AEW World Tag Team Champions. They also appear for AEW's sister promotion, Ring of Honor (ROH), where they are former ROH World Tag Team Champions. He also appears in Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide (AAA), where he is a former AAA World Tag Team Champion, also with Fénix.
Rey Horus is a Mexican luchador enmascarado, or masked professional wrestler. Formerly he wrestled for Major League Wrestling (MLW) and Ring Of Honor (ROH). He was also known as the second El Hijo de Rey Misterio, Spanish for "The Son of Rey Misterio", the second wrestler under that name after the first El Hijo de Rey Misterio, though he is not from the same family. He also works on the independent circuit in the United States and in Mexico. His real name is not a matter of public record, as is often the case with masked wrestlers in Mexico where their private lives are kept a secret from the wrestling fans.

The Lucha Brothers, also known as the Lucha Bros or Los Lucha Bros, are a Mexican professional wrestling tag team consisting of brothers Penta El Zero Miedo/Penta Oscuro and Rey Fénix, and their manager Alex Abrahantes. They currently compete for All Elite Wrestling (AEW) in the United States, where they are former AEW World Tag Team Champions, as well as former AEW World Trios Champions with their Death Triangle stablemate, Pac. They also appear for AEW's sister promotion, Ring of Honor (ROH), where they are former ROH World Tag Team Champions. In Mexico, they wrestle for Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide (AAA), where they are two-time AAA World Tag Team Champions. Saturday Night SuperFight was a professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) event produced by the Major League Wrestling (MLW) promotion, which took place at the Cicero Stadium in Cicero, Illinois on November 2, 2019. It was MLW's first pay-per-view event and the second event under the Superfight chronology. The event aired live on traditional PPV outlets and FITE TV. It would be the last MLW event to be broadcast live until Never Say Never in 2023, and their last event to take place at Cicero Stadium until Azteca Lucha in 2024.
