MTV Base: SA's Hottest MCs

MTV Base: SA's Hottest MCs is an annual segment that has aired on MTV Base at the end of every year since 2014. The segment consists of a panel of judges who are South African hip hop performers or personalities associated with the South African hip hop genre. The finalists of the list are judged based on impact, lyrics, sales, buzz, style and intangibles.

2014

The inaugural edition of the Hottest MCs list was revealed at a two day event on 19–20 November 2014, hosted by Sizwe Dlomo. [2]

"Gusheshe" is a song by South African hip hop recording artist Cassper Nyovest, released as the first single from his debut studio album Tsholofelo. It was released on 19 April 2013 and features a guest verse from Okmalumkoolkat. The song was written by Nyovest and Okmalumkoolkat. It was produced by Ganja Beatz with co-production from Nyovest.

The 2014 Channel O Music Video Awards took place on 29 November 2014 at the Nasrec Expo Centre in Soweto. Nominees were announced on 4 September. Cassper Nyovest, K.O and Davido led the nominations with 5 each. DJ Clock's hit song "Pluto", which features the singing trio Beatenberg, followed with 4. AKA and Uhuru both received three nominations apiece. Cassper Nyovest and Diamond Platnumz both took home three awards apiece.

Rikhado Makhado, known professionally as Riky Rick, was a South African rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer and entrepreneur. He was also the founder and owner of record label Cotton Club Records and a member of Boyz N Bucks and he's well known for his hit song Boss Zonke from his album Family Values.

Boitumelo Thulo, popularly known as Boity, is a South African television personality, rapper, actress, businesswoman and model. In 2019, Thulo was named as one of Forbes Africa's 30 Under 30 for her contribution in the music and entertainment sector.

Senzo Mfundo Vilakazi known professionally as Kwesta, is a South African rapper and songwriter. Born in Katlehong, Gauteng, a township also known as "K1". He is currently signed to his own independent media company known as RapLyf Records with co-founder Kid X.

Anathi Bhongo Mnyango, known professionally as Anatii, is a South African rapper, singer, songwriter, and record producer & music video director.

The 2016 MTV Africa Music Awards were held on October 22, 2016, at Ticketpro Dome in Johannesburg, South Africa. It recognised and rewarded musicians and achievers who made an impact on African music and youth culture during the eligibility period. The awards ceremony aired live on MTV Base, MTV and BET. It was transmitted worldwide on partner stations and content platforms, including BET International. The show was hosted by Nomzamo Mbatha, Yemi Alade and Bonang Matheba. It featured performances from Future, Yemi Alade, Nasty C, Babes Wodumo, Cassper Nyovest and Patoranking, among others.

Benn Gilbert Kamoto, better known by his stage name Gemini Major, is a Malawian-born South African record producer and singer-songwriter. He was signed to Family Tree Records, a South African independent record label found by Cassper Nyovest.

Thuto is the third studio album by South African recording artist and record producer Cassper Nyovest. A follow-up to his 2015 album Refiloe, Thuto was released on 5 May 2017 by his imprint Family Tree Records with support from Bridge Entertainment.

South African rapper Nasty C has released four studio albums, two extended plays (EPs), 16 singles and 22 music videos. Mnqobi Nxumalo, professionally known as Lunatik is a recording artist, songwriter, and record producer born in the town of Empangeni, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. He founded the hip hop sub-genre known as Skhanda along with South African rapper K.O.

The 25th Annual South African Music Awards ceremony was held at the Sun City Arena in North West on June 1, 2019. It aired live on SABC 1. The show was hosted by Bob Mabena, Melanie Bala, Twasa Seoke and hip-hop star Khuli Chana.

The 23rd Annual South African Music Awards was held on May 27, 2017, at Sun City Resort and were hosted by Tumi Morake and Somizi Mhlongo. The nominees were announced on April 20, 2017. Nasty C lead the nominations with 6, followed by Kwesta 5.

Yanga Ntshakaza, professionally known as Yanga Chief is a South African rapper, record producer and singer-songwriter. Born in Mthatha and raised in Queenstown, Yanga studied film studies at University of Johannesburg.

Nhlanhla Tshabalala, better known as Frank Casino, is a South African rapper and record producer. He is known for his guest appearance on "Mayo" by DJ Speedsta with Shane Eagle, Yung Swiss and Tellaman.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">The Saga</span> 2015 single by Anatii featuring AKA

"The Saga" is a single by South African singer-songwriter and record producer Anatii from his debut studio album Artiifact (2016). The record was released on 2 March 2015 through Yal Entertainment and it features guest appearance from AKA. It was later included in the pair's collaborative album Be Careful What You Wish For (2017).
