Yanga Ntshakaza (born 17 October 1987), professionally known as Yanga Chief (or mononymously as Yanga) is a South African rapper, record producer and singer-songwriter. Born in Mthatha and raised in Queenstown, Yanga studied film studies at University of Johannesburg. [1]

Career

In late 2000s, Yanga was a videographer for Buttabing Entertainment. [2] In 2016, he was featured on AKA's "Dreamwork" which was certified 5× diamond, [3] and he co-written Kwesta's song featuring Thabsie "Ngiyaz'fela Ngawe" released in February 26, 2016. [4] Yanga wrote and provided vocals for AKA’s song "Jika" released in 2018. In October 2018, his single "Utatakho" was released. The song peak number one on Metro FM Top 40 charts [5] and was certified gold in South Africa selling over 10 000 units. [6] In 2019 "Utatakho" won Song of the Year at the South African Hip Hop Awards. [7] Yanga made "Utatakho Remix" the song features the late South African rappers Riky Rick, Dee Koala and Boity. Yanga ranked number 3 on MTV Base: SA's Hottest MCs 2019. [8] In October 2019, his extended play (EP) Becoming a Pop Star was released. [9] Becoming a Pop Star won South African Music Award for Best Hip Hop Album in 2021. [10]

Yanga began to work on his debut in 2017. On October 16, 2020, album's pre-add were made available. [11]

On November 27, 2020, his debut studio album Pop Star was released in South Africa. [12] The album received positive reviews from music critics. [13]

He teamed up with Blxckie and 25K on single "Ntoni Na", which music video premiered on MTV Base on the 31st of August 2021. [14] In 2022 he made a single called "Benjamins" where he features Emtee and Henny Belit.

Born in Cape Town and raised in Johannesburg, Forbes gained recognition after releasing his single "Victory Lap" from his debut studio album, Altar Ego (2011). He was one of the most popular South African musicians of his era and the best-selling South African hip hop artist of all-time. He is also regarded by many as one of the greatest South African rappers ever.

Mthembeni Ndeu, professionally known by his stage name Emtee is a South African rapper. He was born and grew up in Rockville, Soweto, where he was involved in talent shows. His career began at the age of 17, and his debut hit single, "Roll Up" was released in 2015. Emtee was signed to Ambitiouz Entertainment, released his debut album Avery (2015), which was commercially successful and was eventually certified platinum by Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA).

Nsikayesizwe David Junior Ngcobo, known professionally as Nasty C, is a South African rapper, songwriter, and record producer.

MTV Base: SA's Hottest MCs is an annual segment that has aired on MTV Base at the end of every year since 2014. The segment consists of a panel of judges who are South African hip hop performers or personalities associated with the South African hip hop genre. The finalists of the list are judged based on impact, lyrics, sales, buzz, style and intangibles.

<i>Touch My Blood</i> 2018 studio album by AKA

Touch My Blood is the third album released by South African rapper AKA. Released on 15 June 2018 through Beam Group in partnership with NYCE Entertainment, it is his first independent release and is the follow-up to his sophomore album, Levels. It features guest appearances from fellow South African artists including L-Tido, JR, Yanga Chief, Stogie T, Kwesta & Okmalumkoolkat, as well as a sole international appearance by Nigerian artist and producer KDDO. Production is handled by AKA, Master A Flat, Tweezy, Tazzy, Kiddominant, Anatii, Gemini Major, DJ Maphorisa, Makwa, Buks and additional production by Julian McGuire. Touch My Blood was certified Gold by the Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA) on 25 June 2018, just one week into its release. On 9 November 2018, the album was certified platinum by RiSA four months after its release.

South African hip hop artist and record producer AKA has released four studio albums, two collaborative albums with Anatii as well as Costa Titch respectively, one extended play (EP), 42 singles and 23 music videos. AKA's music has been released on record labels Sony Music Entertainment Africa, Vth Season and Beam Group.

<i>Strings and Bling</i> 2018 album by Nasty C

Strings and Bling is the second studio album by South African rapper Nasty C. It was released by Universal Music Group on July 6, 2018. At the 25th South African Music Awards the album won the Best Hip Hop album and Best produced album.

Amanda "Ami" Faku is a South African singer, performer and songwriter. Born and raised in the township of eZinyoka, Gqeberha. Faku rose to fame as a contestant on The Voice SA season 2 in 2017, prior getting recognition in the music industry.

Ndivhuwo Elaine Mukheli, known mononymously as Elaine, is a South African R&B singer and songwriter from Pretoria. While studying law at the University of the Witwatersrand, she self-released her debut EP Elements in September 2019. He is known for incorporating details about his Cape Malay culture and his Cape Town roots in his music. Pop Star is the debut studio album by South African singer-songwriter and videographer Yanga Chief released on 27 November 2020 through Sony Music Entertainment Africa under exclusive license from Young Legend Music, it is the sequel to his debut extended play (EP) Becoming a Pop Star (2019). It was led by singles "BBAF" and "Manelo", and features guest appearances from Langa Mavuso, Maglera Doe Boy, Frank Casino, Tshego AMG, SaveMilli and Thabsie.
