Background

On 30 January 2019, the MTV Unplugged Melbourne concert series announced The Rubens as the first act of 2019. The performance took place on Thursday 28 February at the Esplanade Hotel in St Kilda before a live audience and screened on 14 March 2019. [1] [2] On 15 March 2019, the album was announced with a date set in May. [3]

Reception

MTV said "The album feels like a timeline of the band's progressions as both artists and songwriters, as they seamlessly perform a tightrope walk between the raw and the refined." adding "The band have completely transported the listener to a magical evening that happened months ago, yet it still feels fresh, exciting and like they're right there in front of you." [4]

Unplugged is a live album and DVD by the American rock band Alice in Chains, released on July 30, 1996 by Columbia Records. It was recorded on April 10, 1996 at the Brooklyn Academy of Music's Majestic Theatre for the television series MTV Unplugged. The show was directed by Joe Perota and first aired on MTV on May 28, 1996. The MTV Unplugged was Alice in Chains' first concert in two and a half years, and contains live, acoustic versions of the band's biggest hits and lesser-known songs. A new song, "The Killer Is Me", was performed for the first time during the concert. The acoustic version of "Over Now" was released as a single. The album debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart, and has been certified platinum by the RIAA. The performance was released on DVD on October 26, 1999, and re-released as a CD/DVD package featuring unaired footage on September 18, 2007. The home video release has received gold certification by RIAA.

It is the 12th and final song on the band's third and final studio album, In Utero, released in September 1993. Over Now 1996 single by Alice in Chains

"Over Now" is a song by the American rock band Alice in Chains. Written by Jerry Cantrell, who also sings lead vocals, it is the final song on their third studio album, Alice in Chains (1995), and it is about the breakup of the band that took place in 1995. It was a single from the band's MTV Unplugged performance, and was used to close the televised broadcast. The B-side consists of the original studio version of the song. It peaked at No. 4 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, and at No. 24 on the Modern Rock Tracks chart in 1996. The MTV Unplugged version of "Over Now" is the longest song that Alice in Chains has released as a single, clocking in at seven minutes and twelve seconds. The song was included on the box set Music Bank (1999) and the compilation album The Essential Alice in Chains (2006). The MTV Unplugged concert was the first and only time that Alice in Chains performed the song. MTV Unplugged is the second live album by English indie rock band Florence and the Machine, released on 6 April 2012 by Island Records. It was filmed on 15 December 2011 in New York City's oldest synagogue building, the Angel Orensanz Center, as part of the MTV Unplugged series, with the band being backed by a ten-person choir. The album contains acoustic performances of eleven songs, nine from the band's two studio albums, Lungs (2009) and Ceremonials (2011) alongside a cover of "Jackson" with Queens of the Stone Age's Josh Homme and "Try a Little Tenderness". Bleachers (band)

Bleachers is an American indie pop act based in New Jersey. It is the official stage name of songwriter and record producer Jack Antonoff, who is also part of the bands Steel Train, Fun, and Red Hearse. Bleachers' pop music is heavily influenced by the late '80s, early '90s and the high school-based films of John Hughes while still using modern production techniques. Their first single, "I Wanna Get Better", was released February 18, 2014.

Unplugged: The Complete 1991 and 2001 Sessions is a 2014 live album from alternative rock band R.E.M., released initially on vinyl recordings through Rhino Records for Record Store Day, later made available on compact disc and digitally. The album is composed of two performances that the band made on the U.S. television show MTV Unplugged. Among the album's 33 tracks are 11 performances which were not aired on either broadcast. To promote the album, Mike Mills signed copies at independent record store Bull Moose in Scarborough, Maine. Video of the concerts was released later that year on REMTV.

Gang of Youths

Gang of Youths are an Australian indie rock group from Sydney. The band consists of principal songwriter David Le'aupepe, Max Dunn, Jung Kim, Donnie Borzestowski (drums) and Tom Hobden. Kim is Korean-American, Dunn is from New Zealand and Borzestowski is Polish-Australian, Hobden is British, while Le'aupepe is of Samoan-Jewish descent. They are known for their 2017 single "Let Me Down Easy" which became their first top 50 single in Australia. Their debut album, The Positions, peaked at No. 5 on the ARIA Albums Chart in May 2015 and was nominated for multiple ARIA Awards.

MTV Unplugged is the first live album by Australian alternative band Gang of Youths. Gang of Youths were the first band to record a MTV Unplugged live in Australia. The album includes 9 tracks from their album Go Farther in Lightness and one from their EP Let Me Be Clear. Gang Of Youths bassist Max Dunn said the performance was a “pretty important moment” for the group. Dunn said “It's a cool chance to do something a little different and stretch ourselves and give the fans a little more experience of the songs. That's kind of the main thing. In terms of ‘MTV Unplugged’, it’s an important thing from back in the day and it's cool that it's happening and we get to be a part of it.” The recording took place at Cobblestone Pavilion, West Melbourne on 25 July 2018 and was broadcast on MTV Australia on 19 August 2018. The album was released on 26 October 2018.
