M∙A∙CAIDS Fund (M·A·F) is a public charity established in 1994 to support people living with HIV/AIDS worldwide. It donates funds to communities and organizations that offer services to people with HIV/AIDS and help to prevent the disease through educational programs. The fund is financed entirely by the sale of MAC Cosmetics' VIVA Glam products. [1]

History

The M∙A∙C AIDS Fund was established in Toronto in 1994 by Frank Angelo and Frank Toskan. In 1985 they had co-founded MAC Cosmetics, initially a manufacturer of make-up for models and professional make-up artists. The fund's income came primarily from the sales of its VIVA Glam product line and the sales of greeting cards designed by children with AIDS.[ citation needed ]

Among the other organizations with whom the fund partners is the United Nations Foundation. [2]

In 1994, Angelo and Toskan sold 51 percent of their business to Estée Lauder Companies who then completed their acquisition of the company in 1998. In its board meeting of April 2004, the Mac AIDS Fund directors comprised Ian Ness, Charles Richards, Frank Doyle, Michael Laucke, Bruce Hunter and John Demsey served as Chairman. [3] As of 2015, John Demsey, the Group President of Estee Lauder Companies, serves as Chairman of the Mac AIDS Fund's Board of Directors. [4] [5] [6]

VIVA Glam

The M∙A∙C AIDS Fund is supported exclusively by the sales of the MAC Cosmetics VIVA Glam line which features lipsticks and lip glosses. MAC cosmetics donates 100% of the earnings to the fund which helps kids living with HIV around the globe . [7]

In 2002, MAC Cosmetics also began to offer "Good Spirits" makeovers. The makeovers are free and designed to teach men and women, including transgender people, living with HIV/AIDS make-up skills that can make them look and feel better. Professional MAC make-up artists demonstrate techniques that can decrease the appearance of physical problems that may occur from medicine and treatment for HIV/AIDS. [8]

Media campaigns

On World AIDS Day in November 2002, a showing of the film Pandemic: Facing AIDS by Rory Kennedy (sponsored in part by MAC cosmetics) took place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. [9] [10]

In 2009, Fergie [11] appeared on several magazine spreads for VIVA Glam. She also became the fund's spokesperson for the global youth prevention initiative. [12]

The 2012 VIVA Glam spokespeople were Nicki Minaj and Ricky Martin, who is the first Latin American man to be asked to be a part of VIVA Glam. They both created their own VIVA Glam cosmetics, Minaj's being a light pink lipstick while Martin's was a lip conditioner. Minaj's lipstick becoming the best selling VIVA Glam lipstick of all time, and she was invited back to front the 2013 campaign solo. [13] The 2014 VIVA Glam spokesperson was Rihanna, who raised 50 million for the MAC AIDS Fund. [14] [15] Miley Cyrus became the 2015 VIVA Glam spokesperson, [16] going on to outsell Nicki Minaj's previous best of $350M by over $50M. Miley's 2015 campaign raised $400m.

The group was purposely billed as Artists Stand Up to Cancer to the public. The song reached number 7 in Italy, number 10 in Canada, and number 11 in the US and Ireland.

Onika Tanya Maraj-Petty, known professionally as Nicki Minaj, is a Trinidadian-born rapper, singer, songwriter and actress. She is noted for her versatility as an artist, her lyricism and animated flow in her rapping and her usage of alter egos and accents. Minaj first gained recognition after releasing three mixtapes between 2007 and 2009. She rose to fame with her debut album, Pink Friday (2010), which topped the U.S. Billboard 200. The fifth single, "Super Bass", reached number three on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and became the highest charting solo song by a female rapper since 2002. MAC Cosmetics, stylized as M·A·C, is an American cosmetics manufacturer founded in Toronto in 1984 by Frank Toskan and Frank Angelo. The company is headquartered in New York City after becoming a subsidiary of Estée Lauder Companies in 1996. MAC is an acronym for Make-Up Art Cosmetics.

2012 MTV Video Music Awards Award ceremony

The 2012 MTV Video Music Awards, hosted by Kevin Hart, took place on Thursday, September 6, 2012, honoring the best music videos from the previous year. 2015 MTV Video Music Awards Award ceremony

The 2015 MTV Video Music Awards were held on August 30, 2015. The 32nd installment of the event was held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California, and hosted by Miley Cyrus. Taylor Swift led the nominations with a total of ten, followed by Ed Sheeran, who had six, bringing his total number of mentions to 13. Swift's "Wildest Dreams" music video premiered during the pre-show. Cyrus also announced and released her studio album Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz, right after her performance at the end of the show. During his acceptance speech, Kanye West announced that he would be running in the 2020 United States presidential election. Taylor Swift won the most awards with four, including Video of the Year and Best Female Video. The VMA trophies were redesigned by Jeremy Scott.

Happy Hippie Foundation Nonprofit organization founded by Miley Cyrus

The Happy Hippie Foundation is an American non-profit organization founded by entertainer Miley Cyrus on September 17, 2014, and officially launched to the public on May 5, 2015. The foundation focuses on youth homelessness, the LGBTQ community, and other vulnerable populations.

The track was scheduled be released as a promotional single for the singer's MAC Cosmetics benefic campaign on September 24, 2020, though Sony Music, but never premiered on streaming platforms nor was available for digital download. The track references the 1968 Esquire Magazine cover where Muhammad Ali is portrayed, as the martyr Saint Sebastian.
