Maccabi Hakoah Futsal Club is an Australian futsal club based in Sydney, New South Wales. They play in the F-League which is the top tier of Australian Futsal. The club was founded by Gareth Naar in 2008. [1]

History

In 2011 the club was the inaugural winner of the newly formed F-League competition. Due to their success the club qualified to participate in the 2012 AFC Futsal Club Championship. [2]

The club was formed in 1939 as Sydney Hakoah by members of Sydney's Jewish community. They played between 1977 and 1986 in the National Soccer League as Eastern Suburbs (1977–1979) and Sydney City (1979–1987). One of the most successful sides in New South Wales and interstate competitions in the 1960s and early 1970s coached by the now retired Bob Szatmari, Hakoah were also one of the main instigators for the establishment of a national league. The club currently competes in the National Premier Leagues NSW, with games played from Hensley Athletic Field.

The bombing of the Israeli Consulate and Hakoah Club in Sydney occurred on 23 December 1982. The two bombings occurred on the same day within five hours of each other. The initial case led to a single arrest, although charges were later dropped. In 2011, New South Wales Police and Australian Federal Police reopened the case, citing new leads. The bombing was one of a number of attacks that have been conducted against Israeli embassies and diplomats.
