Madeline Gardiner (born January 27, 1995) is a Canadian retired artistic gymnast and an alternate for the 2012 Summer Olympics team. [1] [2]
In April, Gardiner competed at the Pacific Rim Championships in Melbourne, Australia. She placed fourth in the all around competition with a score of 53.400 [3] which also helped the Canadian team to place fourth. [4] In event finals, she placed fifth on vault scoring 13.675, seventh on uneven bars scoring 12.800, third on balance beam scoring 14.425, seventh on floor scoring 12.625. [5]
In May, Gardiner competed in the senior division of the Canadian Championships in Kamloops, Canada. She placed second in the all around final with a score of 55.100. [6] In event finals, she placed fourth on vault scoring 13.375, second on uneven bars scoring 13.950, fifth on balance beam scoring 13.250, and seventh on floor scoring 13.150. [7]
In August, Gardiner competed at the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics in Singapore. She placed thirteenth in the all around final with a score of 51.100. [8] In event finals, she placed fifth on vault scoring 13.587 [9] and eighth on uneven bars scoring 9.900. [10]
In May, Gardiner competed at the Canadian Championships in Charlottetown, Canada. She placed first in the all around final with a score of 54.475 [11] and second in the balance beam final with a score of 13.300. [12]
In June, Gardiner left Cambridge Kip gymnastics club to move to Dynamo Gymnastics, a new club opened by her longtime coach, Elvira Saadi. [13]
In October, Gardiner competed at the 2011 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. She helped the Canadian team place eleventh [14] with scores of 13.066 on uneven bars, 12.933 on balance beam, and 12.766 on floor. [15]
In January, Gardiner competed at the London Prepares series where Canada qualified a full team to the 2012 Summer Olympics. She contributed scores of 13.500 on uneven bars, 14.133 on balance beam, and 13.300 on floor. [16] She placed fourth in the balance beam final with a score of 14.266. [17] She said, "I had no expectations going in. I just wanted to have a good routine and I had added a double turn instead of a full, so I just wanted to hit my routine and where I placed would come. Coming fourth even was a surprise to me and I was happy about that." [18]
In May, Gardiner competed at the Canadian Championships in Regina, Canada. She placed fifth in the all around finals with a score of 54.350. [19] In event finals, she placed fourth on uneven bars scoring 13.350 and second on balance beam scoring 14.400. [20]
This summer, Gardiner hopes to be chosen as part of the five member team that will represent Canada at the 2012 Summer Olympics. After she helped Canada qualify a full team in January, Gardiner said, "I'm glad that I could help make the team anyways, even if I don't make it on. I'll still be happy I was a part of it and a part of helping Canada qualify the team. I still would love to be on the team. I'm trying to take the focus off making the team and put the focus on everyday doing what I need to and take it a day or a week at a time." [18]
At the end of June, Gardiner was one of the twelve gymnasts chosen to compete at the Final Olympic Selection meet in Gatineau, Canada. [21] On the first day of competition she placed eighth in the all around with a score of 51.250. [22] Based on her performances here and at the Canadian Championships she was named as the second reserve for the team that will compete at the 2012 Summer Olympics. [23]
Gardiner has competed for the Oregon State Beavers and has won two national bronze medals on beam in 2014 and 2015.
Kate Richardson is a former artistic gymnast who represented Canada at the 2000 and 2004 Summer Olympics. From 2002–2006, she also competed for the UCLA Bruins.
Rebecca "Becky" Downie is a British artistic gymnast who competed at the 2008 and 2016 Summer Olympics. She is a double European champion and 2014 Commonwealth Games champion on the uneven bars as well as the 2019 World silver medallist.
Brittany Rogers is a Canadian artistic gymnast who competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics. She attended the University of Georgia and competed for the Georgia Gym Dogs. Consequently, combining both elite and college gymnastics without deferral, Rogers is one of very few gymnasts to have undertaken this combination – vying for a spot on the 2016 Summer Olympics team.
Viktoria Aleksandrovna Komova is a former Russian artistic gymnast. She is a two-time Olympic medalist, having won silver medals in the all-around and team events at the 2012 Olympics. She is also the 2011 world uneven bars champion and all-around silver medalist, and the 2015 co-world champion on uneven bars. At the junior level, she was the 2010 Youth Olympics all-around champion, uneven bars champion, vault champion, and floor exercise bronze medalist. Komova is known for her fluidity, form and old school Soviet style.
Anna Yurievna Dementyeva is a retired Russian artistic gymnast. She is the 2011 European all-around and beam champion, and a world gold medalist with the team.
Danusia May Francis-Reid is a retired British artistic gymnast who represented Great Britain and Jamaica in international competition. She was a reserve athlete for Great Britain's 2012 Olympic team. She attended UCLA and competed for the UCLA Bruins gymnastics team. She represented Jamaica at the 2020 Olympic Games.
Kristina Vaculik is a Canadian artistic gymnast who represented Canada at the 2012 Summer Olympics. In 2011-2012, Vaculik took a year off from Stanford University, which she is attending on a gymnastics scholarship, in order to train full-time for the Olympics.
Christine Jennifer Peng-Peng Lee is a retired Canadian artistic gymnast. She was a member of the Canadian team that qualified for the 2012 Summer Olympics and committed to attend UCLA after the Olympics, where she led UCLA to a comeback win at the 2018 NCAA National Championship. Lee prefers using her Chinese name, Peng Peng, when doing gymnastics and she claims that it makes her feel like "someone completely different."
Victoria Ashley Moors OLY(born November 5, 1996) is a retired Canadian artistic gymnast who represented her country at the 2012 Summer Olympics. She is the older sister of 2020 Olympic gymnast Brooklyn Moors.
Elsabeth Ann "Ellie" Black is a Canadian artistic gymnast. She is a three-time Olympian, having represented her country at the 2012, 2016, and 2020 Olympic Games. She is the 2017 World all-around silver medalist, making her the first Canadian gymnast to win a world all-around medal. Black is also the 2018 Commonwealth Games all-around champion, a two time Pan American Games all-around champion, and a six-time Canadian national all-around champion. At the 2016 Olympic Games, Black finished 5th in the individual all-around. At the 2020 Olympic Games, Black placed 4th in the balance beam final, the highest placement in the Olympics for a Canadian gymnast.
Dominique Pegg is a Canadian artistic gymnast and competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics.
Jessica Savona is a Canadian artistic gymnast and an alternate for the 2012 Summer Olympics team. After the Olympics, she will attend and compete for Louisiana State University.
Talia Chiarelli is a Canadian artistic gymnast. In 2006, she moved with her family to Boston and trains at Brestyan's Gymnastics in Burlington, Massachusetts, but still represents the Bluewater Gymnastics Club in competition. She is the daughter of former Boston Bruins and Edmonton Oilers general manager Peter Chiarelli.
Mikaela Gerber is a Canadian artistic gymnast. She is the younger sister of Aisha Gerber.
Elizabeth "Ebee" Nicole Price is a retired American artistic gymnast. Price was an alternate for the 2012 Summer Olympics Gymnastics team, the 2014 American Cup Champion, and the 2013-2014 Artistic Gymnastics World Cup All Around Series Winner. She was a member of the U.S. Junior National Gymnastics Team from 2010 to 2012 and the US Senior National Team from 2012 to 2014. She retired from international elite gymnastics in April 2014.
Seda Gurgenovna Tutkhalyan is a Russian artistic gymnast. She is the 2014 Youth Olympic Games Individual All-around champion and a 2016 Summer Olympics Team silver medalist.
Megan Roberts is a senior elite Canadian artistic gymnast and a member of the Canada National team. She trains at East York Gymnastics, coached by Lawson Hamer and Lisa Cowan.
Amy Tinkler is a retired British artistic gymnast. She is the 2016 Olympic floor exercise bronze medallist and the 2015 British all-around champion.
Charlie Fellows is a British artistic gymnast. She was a reserve gymnast for the 2014 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Nanning, China, and the 2015 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Glasgow, Scotland.
Eythora Elisabet Thorsdottir is a Dutch gymnast born to Icelandic parents. She competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics, where she finished ninth in the individual all-around, the highest placing ever for a gymnast from the Netherlands. At the 2017 European Championships, she won a silver medal on balance beam and a bronze medal on floor exercise.
