Madhu Eravankara is a film director, film critic, film scholar,film jury, film teacher, and author. [1] [2] He was born in Eravankara in Alappuzha District, Kerala, India.

He has directed the feature film Nankooram and around thirty documentaries including Nishadam (IFFK-2004, CFF-2004, DFF-2004 & BIFF- 2005), [3] [4] The Milky Way, The story of PDDP, Adoor Gopalakrishnan, Asmara -The City of Dreams ( Eritrea), Victims of Silence (Eritrea), Punarakhyanam, Punarjjani, Kerala Paninini, Razia, Kettukazcha, Kuthiyottam, Chettikulangara Amma, The Leader,The Festival of Pagodas and The Journey-Swayamvaram at Fifty that have received state, national and international acclaim. He has directed a docufiction- Pakalmazha (Day Rain) for the Social Welfare Board, Govt. of Kerala. Magic Wheel, his documentary was made as a part of the workshop conducted in Indian School, Bahrain[ citation needed ].

Formerly he was Prof. & Head, Dept. of Chemistry, Catholicate College Pathanamthitta ( M.G.University), Prof.& Head, Dept.of Film Studies, Thunchathezhuthachan Malayalam University and Media Director, Audiovisual Institute of Eritrea ( North East Africa). He has been in the organising committees and selection committees of International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) and International Documentary and Short Film Festival of Kerala ( IDSFK). [6] He was the Chairman of Narendra Prasad Smaraka Nataka Padana Gaveshana Kendram, Dept. of Culture, Govt, of Kerala and Governing board member, State Institute of Encyclopaedic Publications. He was the former Secretary of the Indian Chapter of International Film Critic Federation ( FIPRESCI), Chairman of Documentary Film Maker's Forum of Kerala ( DFFK). Adoor Gopalakrishnan is an Indian film director, script writer, and producer and is regarded as one of the most notable and renowned filmmakers in India. With the release of his first feature film Swayamvaram (1972), Gopalakrishnan pioneered the new wave in Malayalam cinema during the 1970s. In a career spanning over five decades, Gopalakrishnan has made only 12 feature films to date. His films are made in the Malayalam language and often depict the society and culture of his native state Kerala. Nearly all of his films premiered at Venice, Cannes and Toronto International Film Festival. Along with Satyajit Ray and Mrinal Sen, Gopalakrishnan is one of the most recognized Indian film directors in world cinema.

Madhavan Nair, commonly known by his stage name Madhu, is an Indian actor, director, producer, former college lecturer and former film studio owner, who works in Malayalam cinema and a certain number of Hindi and Tamil films. He was a prominent lead actor during the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s and has acted in more than 400 films. Madhu has also directed 12 films, produced 15 films and at one time owned the Uma Film Studio. He was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 2013 for his contributions towards the arts. He was honored with the J. C. Daniel Award by the Government of Kerala in 2004, for his outstanding contributions to Malayalam films. He is the president of Indian People's Theatre Association (IPTA) Kerala Unit.

Kerala State Chalachitra Academy ,Trivandrum is an autonomous non-profit institution working under the Department of Cultural Affairs, Government of Kerala. It was founded in August 1998 for the promotion of cinema in Kerala, considering that cinema is the most popular art form in Kerala. The academy was first of its kind in India and was formed on the basis of the Karant committee report (1980), which proposed the formation of a national film academy. Under the leadership of T K Ramakrishnan, The Minister for Cultural Affairs appointed Shaji N.Karun as its first chairman.

Adaminte Makan Abu is a 2011 Indian Malayalam-language social drama film written, directed and co-produced by Salim Ahamed. It stars Salim Kumar and Zarina Wahab, with Mukesh, Kalabhavan Mani, Suraj Venjarammoodu, and Nedumudi Venu in supporting roles. The cinematography was handled by Madhu Ambat. The film features songs composed by Ramesh Narayan and score by Isaac Thomas Kottukapally. The film tells the story of a poor attar seller Abu (Kumar) whose only remaining wish in life is the Hajj pilgrimage, which he strives hard to fulfill.

Ozhivu Divasathe Kali is a 2015 Indian Malayalam indie drama film directed by Sanal Kumar Sasidharan, based on the short story of the same name by Unni R. The film follows five middle-aged men who get together for a booze party during an election holiday in Kerala. It won the 46th Kerala State Film Award for Best Film. The film was included in The Hindu's top 25 Malayalam films of the decade and is widely regarded as one of the defining movies of the Malayalam New Wave.

She made her feature film debut with the Malayalam film Manhole, which won her that year's Kerala State Film Award for Best Director. At the 21st International Film Festival of Kerala, the film won two awards including the Best Debutant Director Award for Vincent.

<i>Manhole</i> (2016 film) 2016 Indian film

Manhole is a 2016 Indian Malayalam-language film directed by Vidhu Vincent, depicting the life and struggles of a manual scavenger's daughter. The film was adjudged the Best Film of the year 2016 by the jury for the Kerala State Film Awards 2016 and the Director of the film was selected as the Best Director of the year 2016. This made Vidhu Vincent the first woman to win the Best Director Award in the history of Kerala State Film Awards since its inception in 1969. According to jury chairman Apurba Kishore Bir, Manhole was the unanimous choice among the jury members for convincingly bringing the plight of the marginalised on screen.
