Madhu Malathi is a 1966 Indian Kannada-language romantic drama film directed by S. K. A. Chari and produced by M. Sampath. The film stars Rajkumar, Udaykumar, Arun Kumar and Bharathi Vishnuvardhan. The musical score was composed by G. K. Venkatesh. [1] [2]
The title card credits the story to the director, noting that it was based on a book by Bhavabhuti. [3] The story traces its origins to the ancient Indian drama Mālatīmādhava by Bhavabhuti (c. 8th-century) and later became one of the popular Vikram - Vetal stories from Vetala Panchavimshati , a Sanskrit work whose earliest recensions are found in Kathasaritsagara written by Somadeva (c. 11th-century). The film was dubbed in Tamil as Vedhalan Sonna Kathai. [5] The film features characteristics of swashbuckler films with the three male leads playing swashbucklers and the sole female lead portraying a damsel in distress. This was the first film where Bharathi was paired with Rajkumar. [6]
J. Jayalalithaa was initially chosen for the lead actress role, but she was unable to take up the movie due to production delays and scheduling conflicts with her Tamil movie commitments. This film was the inaugural film for Sangam Theatre, Majestic, where it had a six-week run. In its second run, it was released in Triveni theatre in 1968. [6]
Sampath Kumar, known by his stage name Vishnuvardhan, was an Indian actor who worked predominantly in Kannada cinema besides also having sporadically appeared in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu and Malayalam language films. Vishnuvardhan has a prolific career spanning over four decades, during which he has acted in more than 220 films. A popular cultural icon of Karnataka, and holds the status of a matinée idol among the Kannada diaspora. He is popularly called as Sahasa Simha, Dada and The Angry Young Man of Kannada Cinema. Vishnuvardhan's contributions to Kannada cinema have been praised by his contemporaries in the Indian film industry. The Government of Karnataka honoured him with the Rajyothsava Prashasthi in 1990 and the Dr. Rajkumar Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007 for his contributions to Kannada cinema. He was called The Phoenix of Indian Cinema. In 2008, a poll conducted by CNN-IBN listed Vishnuvardhan as the most popular star in the Kannada film industry.
Bharathi Vishnuvardhan, also known mononymously as Bharathi, is an Indian actress known primarily for her work in Kannada cinema and television serials. She began her career in 1966, as a lead actress, with the Kannada movie Love in Bangalore though Dudde Doddappa was her first release. In a career spanning over 50 years, Bharathi has appeared in 150 films. Apart from 100 films in Kannada, she has also acted in a handful of Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam films. Through the course of her career, she became known for her portrayal of roles of mythological and historical characters, and also that of a student, a romantic and a rural belle. Her role in Sri Krishnadevaraya (1970) as Chennambike won her the Karnataka State Film Award for Best Actress. In 2017, she was honoured with the Padma Shri by the Government of India. She has the distinction of having paired with Dr.Rajkumar as a lead actress in all the 26 movies she acted with him and is also paired with him the most no. of times in those movies where he played multiple roles.
Bommasandra Srinivasaiah Suryanarayana Murthy, known by his screen name Udaykumar, was an Indian actor and producer in Kannada cinema. Along with Kalyan Kumar and Rajkumar, he was referred to as the Kumarathrayaru of Kannada cinema. He authored many dramas and books. He performed a broad range of roles and worked with all of the prominent actors of his time. Early in his carreer, he portrayed heroic characters, later transitioning to more nuanced villainous roles, often countering Rajkumar's heroic persona in historicals and mythologicals.

The film was Siddalingaiah's debut as a director and actor Dwarkish's first independent production venture who had earlier co- produced the 1966 movie Mamatheya Bandhana with 2 other people under Thunga Pictures. The sub-plot of the film regarding the salvaging of the sub-standard grain was inspired by the 1886 novel The Mayor of Casterbridge by Thomas Hardy. The movie was remade in Telugu in 1974 as Chairman Chalamayya starring Chalam.

Emme Thammanna is a 1966 Indian Kannada-language film produced and directed by B. R. Panthulu. It stars Rajkumar, Dikki Madhava Rao, Bharathi Vishnuvardhan. The supporting cast features Narasimharaju, Subbanna, Krishna Shastry, B. R. Panthulu, Papamma, Jaya and M. V. Rajamma. The film was remade in Telugu as Govula Gopanna (1968), in Hindi as Jigri Dost (1969) and in Tamil as Mattukara Velan (1970). This was the first social drama movie of Rajkumar where he played dual roles in a full-fledged manner excluding Malli Maduve where his second character appears only for three seconds. The core plot was loosely based on a Marathi play.

It is a remake of the Tamil movie Kuzhandaiyum Deivamum, which itself was an adaptation of the 1953 British film Twice Upon a Time and the 1961 movie The Parent Trap – both based on the Erich Kästner's 1949 German novel Lottie and Lisa.
Rajadurgada Rahasya is a 1967 Indian Kannada-language film, co-directed by A. C. Narasimha Murthy and S.K.Bhagwan, and produced by A. Vasudeva Rao and T. Dwarakanath. The film stars Rajkumar, Bharathi, Udaykumar, Narasimharaju and Dinesh, with a musical score composed by G. K. Venkatesh. Rajkumar plays dual roles in this film. Although S.K.Bhagwan was the primary director, he revealed that the directorial credit was shared with Narasimha Murthy, who was the chief financier of the film. The film was later dubbed in Tamil as Malaikotai Marmam. This was also the final film in which Bhagwan directed actress Bharathi Vishnuvardhan.

The film stars Dr. Rajkumar, Udaya Chandrika, Udaykumar, Narasimharaju, Balakrishna and Vanisri. This is the first Kannada film of actress Udaya Chandrika and was also the debut movie of Nagappa - who went on to become one of the popular villains of his time. The film has musical score by Upendra Kumar who also made his debut in Kannada movies through this movie.
