Magdalena Falewicz (born 11 February 1946) is a Polish operatic soprano. [1]

Career

Born in Lublin, Falewicz began studying in Warsaw and made her debut there in 1971. From 1972 to 1979, she was a member of the ensemble at the Komische Oper Berlin. There she sang among others Oscar in Un ballo in maschera , the Contessa in Le nozze di Figaro (direction: Walter Felsenstein) and Madama Butterfly (mise-en-scène: Joachim Herz). [2] [3]

From 1979 to the mid-1990s, she was in the ensemble of the Berlin State Opera. There she sang among others Contessa, Donna Elvira, Pamina (also in the 1980 Japan guest performance), Marzelline, Eva (also in the 1987 Japan guest performance), Giulietta, Rosalinde, Micaela, Tatjana, Liu and Zdenka. Guest performances took her among others to the FRG, the USSR and the USA as well as Eastern and Western Europe. [5]

She was married to the US tenor John Moulson until his death. [6]

Inge Borkh was a German operatic dramatic soprano. She was first based in Switzerland, where she received international attention when she appeared in the first performance in German of Menotti's The Consul, in Basel, in 1951. In 1952, Borkh became a member of the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Bavarian State Opera in Munich. She appeared at leading opera houses in Europe and the Americas, and at festivals such as Bayreuth and Salzburg. Trained first as an actress, she was admired for both singing and stage presence, especially in the Richard Strauss roles Salome and Elektra. She also performed in contemporary opera, such as the premiere of Josef Tal's Ashmedai at the Hamburg State Opera in 1971. Her recordings include complete operas and recitals. Borkh was awarded the Hans-Reinhart-Ring, the highest honour for theatre professionals in Switzerland.

<i>Carmina Burana</i> (Orff) 1937 cantata by Carl Orff

Carmina Burana is a cantata composed in 1935 and 1936 by Carl Orff, based on 24 poems from the medieval collection Carmina Burana. Its full Latin title is Carmina Burana: Cantiones profanae cantoribus et choris cantandae comitantibus instrumentis atque imaginibus magicis. It was first performed by the Oper Frankfurt on 8 June 1937. It is part of Trionfi, a musical triptych that also includes Catulli Carmina and Trionfo di Afrodite. The first and last sections of the piece are called "Fortuna Imperatrix Mundi" and start with "O Fortuna".

<i>Die Kluge</i>

Die Kluge. Die Geschichte von dem König und der klugen Frau is an opera in 12 scenes written by Carl Orff. It premiered at the Frankfurt Opera, Germany, on 20 February 1943. Orff referred to this opera as a Märchenoper. The composer also wrote the libretto, based on "Die Kluge Bauerntochter" from Grimms' Fairy Tales. A performance lasts for about 90 minutes and is often paired with Orff's Der Mond.
