Margaret Mary Appleton (born 21 August 1965) is an English museum director. She has been the Chief Executive Officer of the RAF Museum since 2015. [1] [2]
Appleton was born in Wyndham and brought up in Kirkham, Lancashire. Her father died when she was six. She and her sister were brought up by their mother.
Appleton attended Willow Road Catholic Primary School. Her secondary education took place at Lark Hill Newman College.[ citation needed ] In 1984, she accepted a place at Liverpool University where she studied medieval and modern history. After graduating, she worked as a medical sales rep and volunteered at Peterborough Museum [3] Appleton completed a MSc in Heritage Management from Birmingham University's Ironbridge Institute.[ citation needed ]
Appleton began her career in museums at the Royal Armouries. [4] In 1991, she moved to Stevenage Museum and was there for 11 years. [3] She left in 2003 to become the director of museums for Luton Museum Service. While there, she oversaw a major renovation of Stockwood Discovery Centre and the acquisition of the medieval Wenlock Jug. [5] In 2008, she set up Luton Culture, an independent charitable trust, and became its first chief executive. Appleton was appointed CEO of the RAF Museum in October 2014. [1] [6] As the CEO, she led the Museum's £26M transformation to mark the centenary of the Royal Air Force in 2018. She served as the president of the Museums Association between 2018 and 2021. [7]
Appleton was awarded an MBE for services to museums and heritage in 2011. [8] She is an honorary graduate of the University of Middlesex. [9]
Helen Mary Southworth is a former Labour Party politician in the United Kingdom who is the Chief Executive of Age Concern Isle of Man. She is the former Member of Parliament (MP) for Warrington South, and was first elected at the 1997 general election. She retained the Warrington South seat at the 2001 and 2005 general elections, each time with a reduced majority. On 15 June 2009, she announced that she would be retiring at the next general election. The seat that she vacated was subsequently won for the Conservative Party by David Mowat. She was the only person to have won successive elections in the constituency until Mowat retained the seat at the 2015 general election with an increased majority.
The Royal Air Force Museum London is located on the former Hendon Aerodrome, in North London's Borough of Barnet. It includes five buildings and hangars showing the history of aviation and the Royal Air Force. It is part of the Royal Air Force Museum.

Dame Margaret Ebunoluwa Aderin-Pocock is a British space scientist and science educator. She is an honorary research associate of University College London's Department of Physics and Astronomy, and has been the chancellor of the University of Leicester since 1 March 2023. Since February 2014, she has co-presented the long-running astronomy television programme The Sky at Night with Chris Lintott.
