Richard Essien known professionally as Magical Bones is a UK-based magician, illusionist and Bboy.

Career

He started his career as a dancer with Madonna, The Black Eyed Peas, [1] Alicia Keys, and Plan B [2] , and starred in the music video for Mint Royale's "Singin' in the Rain". [3] He also performed around the world including for Madonna's son's 10th birthday party. [4]

TV appearances

In 2015, he starred in Sky's Around the World in 80 Tricks [5] , and appeared twice on This Morning . [6] He was a finalist in series 14 of Britain's Got Talent in 2020, [7] where related the story of Henry Box Brown. [8] He featured alongside Penn & Teller in their show Penn & Teller:Fool Us, [9] as well as Pure Magic [10] and Crackerjack [11] on the BBC. He appeared on Sky's, Unmuted. [12] and was the runner up for the ITV Christmas Special BGT: Ultimate Magician in December 2022 [13]

Theatre

Bones was cast [14] as one of the six magicians to feature in the West End magic show Impossible, which debuted at the Noel Coward Theatre and then went on to tour [15] around the U.K and globally in Dubai, Lebanon, and the Philippines[ citation needed ].

Bones’ debut solo show Black Magic [16] sold out residencies at London’s Southbank Festival [4] and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and went on to play around the UK. [17]

His second show Soulful Magic [18] premiered in 2022 at Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and was set for a nationwide tour in the spring of 2023. His sister, comedian Eme Essien, was also proforming at the Edinurgh Fringe at the same time [19] .

The ninth series of British talent competition programme Britain's Got Talent was broadcast on ITV, from 11 April to 31 May 2015. The series saw the "Wildcard" format introduced in the sixth series being modified in this series to include a "Public Wildcard" – like the "Judges' Wildcard" any act eliminated in the semi-finals, primarily those that lost out in the Judges' vote, could be reinstated by the public, based on the one that received the most votes from them before the final. Although speculations and rumours began to emerge after the previous series ended, claiming that some of the judges would be leaving before the ninth series, these were later dismissed as being unfounded by ITV, on 16 January 2015.

The programme counted down the fifty greatest magic tricks, as voted for by members of The Magic Circle. The illusion at number one was Death Saw by David Copperfield. The show was presented by British comedy duo Adam and Joe, who also wrote and narrated the programme. The show was first broadcast on Channel 4 on 6 May 2002.
